^ it’s interesting that April had more international and transborder passengers than May. Historically it’s the other way around I believe.

I have been on the YYC-YXE flight a number of times when they have held the flight for connecting customers. They will only do that for a short period of time since there are almost no onward connections happening in YXE.

Just now they do actually have some good connection times in YYZ.

Actually pre-pandemic the summer seasonal triangle route (with YQR) was always to YOW. It's just one of the many, many losses YOW has seen as the NCR is further squeezed by the two neighbouring juggernauts in the recovery. No other city in the country is squeezed like that, not even Edmonton.

YXE-YOW and YQR-YOW if they're ever to return, I'd hedge my bets on Porter, even ahead of the ULCCs. But you're talking 3 or 4 years down the road while the all the bigger transcon routes get established with them.

Now that most of the ACL reports are out.

WS has enough for 1x daily at LHR. Report lists YYC as destination, perhaps going year-round.

Enough for 2x daily at LGW. Curious if YVR gets extended to year-round and YYC moved to LHR.

And has enough slots for 4x weekly at DXB. They've appeared on the DXB initial reports several times now, so its doubtful anything comes of this.

That sounds like a positive. Having a daily slot a Heathrow is fantastic news for WestJet. I hope they jump on it and secure those slots.

I think the 4x at DXB would work well for them given they energy sector in Calgary will help fill the small front cabin. Onward connections to India will help fill the back cabin.

Yes, the daily Heathrow slot is huge. Since Westjet seems to be focusing on 787s out of YYC exclusively, I wonder if AC will retrench in response in Calgary and connect customers via other airports.

Is Westjet dropping their Gatwick service from YYZ? I can’t imagine it does very well.

Dubai would be an interesting choice from YYC. Given the distance, lack of 787 expansion, and oil prices, I would not expect it for awhile though.

I wonder if they could effectively capture some VFR traffic by codesharing or interlining with EK (to places like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Phillipines etc).

I wonder why they keep requesting for DXB slots if they never use them?

WS most likely received one of Aeroflot’s slots they were forced to give up. A huge score for them, JetBlue, VS and Vistara.

WS have YYZ-LGW loaded daily 789 through the winter.

In other words, this takes WS back to their pre-pandemic level of winter LGW service. Four of the remaining slots (days 1357) are allocated to YYC-LGW. Yeah anywhere but YVR for the remaining three would be a big surprise.

AC have 9 daily slots at LHR probably allocated as follows:
-YVR x1
-YYC x1
-YYZ x3
-YUL x2
-YHZ x1 (no doubt will only be partially used to 4x weekly)
-BOM x1 (YOW is screwed in winter until the Russia overflights are possible again which could be years - mind you YOW is screwed either way)

TS was also given an additional 2 weekly slot pairs to give them a total of 9 weekly this winter - no doubt spilt between YUL & YYZ.

Both YUL and YHZ have daily flight scheduled for the winter. I remember AC usually lease out a slot?

But if AC is going to add an addition round-trip to an existing route, the the most likely would be YYZ (2x 400-seat 77W terminator + 789 for BOM), then YVR (400-seat 77W), then YUL (333).

.

WS hasn’t loaded any changes to its winter schedule yet, so it’s basically still the pre-covid placeholder schedule.

Ah ok, I did not realize AC removed the 2nd daily YUL-LHR this winter, nor did I realize they were leaving YHZ as the daytripper. No wonder it's daily as leaving one slot daily unused means the YHZ slot has to be used daily in order to meet the minimum slot usage %. Normally YHZ is 4x weekly in winter (slot used to get split with YYT the other 3x).

You can just see the tops of the shuttles they used to take passengers to and from planes on the Parking apron. They only used them for a couple of years.

With criticism of all the delays at Cdn airports, its worth noting the international situation:

YUL still uses them even today.

I love the retro YEG pic. Never knew YEG for a period of time had PTVs, like YMX most (in)famously had. YYZ even had a couple with AC back in the old T2 days of the late 80s. Some of the former YMX PTVs are still used at YUL for remote stands.

In keeping with the throwback theme, here's a couple at YOW. This website has a pile of historic aircraft photos, including over 80 at YOW: https://www.airhistory.net/pub/show....5&per_page=160

Just this past week, we've had a number of shipments delayed due to drivers not showing up from a few different carriers. I've heard Covid blamed, stress leave, and staffing shortages.

Really? Which airline? I remember coming to Canada in 1982 and those PTV's were the first thing I went on at Mirabel Airport. I didn't even know YEG ever used these.

It’s not specific to any airline.

Any plane - usually arriving from an international destination - that parks at a remote stand can get PTVs to transport passengers to the terminal. I’ve even seen a sunwing flight come in from somewhere down south and parking at the domestic jetty, due to lack of gates at the international Pier, and the passengers got ptv’ed to the international jetty for customs.

And it’s not just for arriving passengers. It’s used for departure as well.

There’s a gate at the international pier - gate 53 - that has no jet bridge at the end, it’s just 4 PTV connection docks to transport you to a remote stand. I’ve used it before. If you look on google earth between gate 55 and 52, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Also, for those that use FR24, the PTVs have tags. And you can see their latest movements. Look around gate 53 to find them.
