Correct. This site is directly below. The outlined site is mentioned in the piece.

what's happening on site these days?

maybe someone can get pics for us???

Drove by the site yesterday. Still excavating from what it looks like.

One thing about Flatbush is that the area has really seen a big increase in street activity. You'd think you're in Midtown for a second. Very busy area. With these 1000's of units coming online in the next year or two, its going to get a lot more packed in DoBro.

FAA data states a 1030 ft height.

NYguy May 31, 2017 3:25 AM

DOB docs still have it at 1,066 ft. The latest amendment still has it at that height. The FAA study was likely done at the other height.

I'm as excited for this as I am for anything going up in Manhattan! This is going to be epic!

This tower will redefine the Brooklyn skyline that's for sure!

Site of Brooklyn’s first supertall finally sees some movement

Quote:

Last year, the Landmarks Preservation Commission gave 9 Dekalb, Brooklyn’s first supertall tower, the green light. But since then the site, which is being developed by JDS and designed by SHoP Architects, has been fairly quiet — until now.

JDS Development Group posted a new video on its Instagram account yesterday showing that caisson installation is now underway, according to Curbed.

Caisson installation is one of the first steps of building out the foundation of the 1,066-foot building. The tower is scheduled for completion in 2020.

I know nothing about this guy other than that he is the developer of two great buildings under construction, but he comes off very well in this interview.

I'm more excited for this than I am for anything going up in Manhattan (which is a lot). The reason being that it's the first supertall in another borough so this means the NYC skyline will soon extend beyond the Island of Manhattan to the next island over. It's a huge game changer!

Imagine in the future if we get more supertalls in Brooklyn and Queens how the East River will look with massive skyscrapers on each side + with all the bridges between them.

The planned supertall tower in Long Island City (Queens) was cut down by the FAA. The City also had the FAA do a multi-supertall study for that area, but the FAA decided that 700 footers should be the limit there. That's what Queens is getting, but it's getting a lot of action, more than BK actually. But Brooklyn is doing it's own thing, and 9 Dekalb will be the crown that the borough of Kings deserves.

:burstbubble:

That's a shame. That really is. I didn't even know there was a planned supertall for LIC to begin with. Oh well. At least Brooklyn is getting supertalls now.

chris08876 Jun 13, 2017 12:16 AM

Its one of those cases where quantity will do more aesthetically versus just a lone, very tall tower. LIC has more action at the moment than DoBro, and a lot of what's rising or planned, is in the 500-700 foot range. Adding clusters of those, will do a lot to expand the mass of the skyline. Turn it into a Midtown East lite.

mrnyc Jun 13, 2017 1:49 PM

while that is a shame for lic, good news is this tower shows that supertalls are go for around downtown brooklyn -- so maybe another at some point?

thx for the above shots of pushing around dirt at the site, i havent been by lately and that is exactly what i wanted to see. it is definately well underway.
