When you consider that this building sits at about 80 feet above sea level compared to 1 WTC sitting just above, won't that make it appear taller as well. Take its additional roof height plus the elevation gain and it should appear to sit about 1550 feet above sea level. Compared to 1 WTC at 1368
|
Thats not bad, 1,825 feet from afar. Lets say your looking at it from just above sea level over at Jersey City. The ESB is also something like 50 ft above sea level. With the lightning rod thats about 1,500'. Considering ground elevation, 432 Park Ave will appear slightly taller (close to 1440' or so).

I was busy so I found out about the height increase recently, and so here is my voice on it.
Personally this building looks like a cross between the Sears Tower, and John Hancock Centre in Chicago so it has a Chicago style design, and that is what is cool about it. It doesn't look like it belongs in New York City. So I have to give it a win for that type of design, but I still don't like one thing which is the cantilever on the design. It makes the design a mess. I don't like it. If they removed it, but kept the design it did be a total winner in my book. They ought to remove it. Design wise it did be better.... |

I drove into town today after a wknd in Boston and 432 Park dominates the skyline in a badass way. I can't wait to see what impact the Nordstrom tower has in a few years.
|
It's amazing when you see the new diagram next to 1 WTC just how massive this tower will be. This will definitely dominate the Manhattan skyline when complete.
|
Just looked at the new diagram. I agree. Given WTC1's size, and dominance in person, this will really make a mark. That extra roof height will make it unique in the city. Tallest roof in the Western Hemisphere. The spire is okay IMO. I think I like the WTC spire better. The cantilever also looks wicked. Again, differentiating this tower from the others and making it unique. On a side note, this kinda looks like a one of those forerunner structures in Halo, only very tall; ones who've played it will know. :haha:

is this really going to be as skinny as it looks in the diagram? for some reason i thought it was a bit wider. looks crazy

It definitely gives a good indication of what we are dealing with. I don't have the dimensions to memory but I believe it will be wider than 432 Park Ave. On a side note, look at the massiveness of WTC2. That will be a monster. Not only tall, but thick.
Although if we look at the diagrams, notice the progressive nature of roof height. Each one seems to be getting slightly taller. A 600m is definitely within the horizon (probably with a spire), and a roof height that hopefully will eclipse 1600 ft. Off topic for just this one post but food for thought, if Wanda wants to make a mark on the global stage (see Chicago supertall), hopefully the project that they are planning (secret for now), will be a supertall on that scale. The Chinese have the capital to do it. Why not here. :) |
Hi,
Im In Tempo (225 West 57th Drawer). I have made a new diagram which is wider! ;) |
I think the tower is supposed to be wider, but its still great to having something representative on the diagram page! It gives us a pretty good idea of how tall the tower will look in the skyline. Now all we need is a taller version of One Vanderbilt.
I proclaim Nordstrom Tower to be the Sears Tower of the early 21st Century! |
Those diagrams accurately show what an incoherent mess the crown and spire portion of 1 Vanderbilt is, along with its dumpy silhouette.

I like the new drawing in tempo. Much more accurate

Quite nice. Definitely a little more accurate. The cantilever really adds to the design. The simplicity in a way works with it. Doesn't have to be extravagant, sometimes, simplicity just seems to work. The diagrams btw do give us an idea of how wicked 111 West 57th Street will be. So damn narrow and thin its incredible.
