Thanks !

So, at least, the perfect growth would be 8.33333% a month

Sounds like YEG is going to see KLM...

Get to Iceland fast my friends ...

bkd Aug 29, 2014 5:21 AM

Are you implying that we'll lose that route or load factors will significantly decrease if KLM enters the market?

Not sure what you're getting at to be honest.

I would assume that is what he is getting at.

Now I'm first and foremost a total avgeek that only has a basic understanding of the economics of airlines, but I have seen how KL has steadily built up the YYC-AMS flight over the years while others have gone away (LH). So not really knowing anything of the operating cost specifics of either airline as a layman I would not be surprised that if KL enters YEG and follows their plan FI could be in trouble (same goes for AC and their LHR flight too).

Don't know if you can read polish but translated that's what it says!

They are considering it. Nothing definitive... YUL is mentioned in response to a question "what is the long term plan for the airline".

Isn't that 2013 figure for Billy Bishop (2,300,000) actually a re-posting of their 2012 number?

Chadillaccc Sep 3, 2014 2:34 PM

Amazing, YYC just broke 14 million last year and is now poised to be well-past 15 million (for the first time ever) by the end of this year. Even with just an average growth from August through December of 6% (a wildly conservative projection), the passenger stats will be at around 15.3 million by end of year. So likely the actual number will be around 15.5 million or so. Great to see Vancouver and Edmonton growing so fast too. Can't believe Toronto is at nearly 40 million!!!

1overcosc Sep 3, 2014 3:12 PM

YYZ is growing fast... a little concerning given that its maximum capacity is about 50 million, and that the new Pickering Airport is not supposed to be ready until 2027.

LeftCoaster Sep 3, 2014 4:12 PM

There is plenty of expansion capacity remaining at Pearson itself.

What about bridging the gap by sending the charters and LCCs to YHM?

Can they reactivate the infield terminal (remember that?) for some flights?

YYZ is in a league of its own in Canada. Next tier appears to be YVR, YYC and YUL. Then YEG also in a separate tier.

Looks to me like you have YYZ/YVR/YYC/YUL as the key international gateways to Canada, with YYZ being the undisputed king. That sounds about right for a country of Canada's size.

Everything below that would mainly domestic/transborder, with relatively few if any international connections - basically the list from YEG moving downward.

Looks like a familiar pattern you see in many countries: one dominant international hub, a few key international gateways, then the domestic hubs, then the regional airports. For example, Italy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ports_in_Italy

Chadillaccc Sep 3, 2014 6:40 PM

Calgary doesn't do too well in the international department, actually. So far our 12-month ended July, we had about 1.4 million international passengers. We'll likely end the year between 1.5 and 1.6 million. Solid growth, but nothing like the numbers in YVR or even YUL. Our combined transborder/international is over 4.4 million so far though.

Calgary is growing quickly in that department... it is doing impressively well considering that it has only been in that top rank of airports for about a decade or so. With several flights a day to European and Asian destinations, it's clear that Calgary is establishing itself as a major hub for the region.

Denscity Sep 3, 2014 9:12 PM

YVR has just put out their July numbers (as posted by Johnny in the YVR thread) and its the busiest month YVR has EVER had! Overall Just under 2 million passengers in July or up 8.1% ytd! Asia Pacific up a whopping 13%!!
