I have seen others like this, but it's usually adjusted fairly close to the change in the booking engine, but this flight has been on the schedules for weeks (months even) after it was taken out of booking. Does this mean it will come back as available to book? Any AC schedule experts (you know who you are) please comment :)

Most likely just AC haven't remove them from the schedule. In fact, they may never remove them from the schedule, and eventually just "cancel" them in flight status search.

If a flight is available from booking, then it will have to be on the schedule. The reverse isn't true, as AC can just zero out the flight and leave it on schedule.

The PDF schedule posted is as good as the online schedule search. I think it was just automatically generated from the database with some sort of script and auto post on website once a week or so, with little or no auditing. If you want a more accurate schedule, check the ones on AC Navi. This should be manually edited or at least throughly checked.

AC interested in acquiring Jet Airways.

https://www.thehindubusinessline.com...le26798980.ece

Air Canada has emerged as the dark horse in the race to acquire Jet Airways. The Canadian airline, along with Etihad, is among the top contenders for the debt-laden Indian airline.

Heartened by the interest from these foreign carriers, State Bank of India, the lead lender to Jet Airways, on Wednesday extended the deadline for Expression of Interest to April 12. “The earlier deadline was set for April 10 but some of the international airlines that are interested asked for more time. There are more than two investors who are interested in putting in a bid,” said a top source.

According to another source, Air Canada has sent a written application to the state-run bank seeking an extension.

According to one of the persons cited above, “Since Air Canada is an overseas airline and there is a time difference with India, the airline needs time for due diligence. The lenders have agreed to give an extension.”

Malaysian carrier Air Asia and Tata Sons joint venture Vistara are also understood to be among those who have sought a clarification from lenders. Jet Airways’ current joint venture investor Etihad Airways had also confirmed its interest in bidding for the beleaguered airline.

After April 12, lenders will examine the eligibility of all those who have expressed interest. Thereafter, the eligible bidders will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) after which the company will be given some time to examine the books of the airline. “The qualified bidders will be expected to submit their respective binding bid(s) latest by April 30 subject to the terms set out under the bid document,” SBI Capital Markets said in a notice posted on its website.

I've been following this on A.net. Why on earth would AC every throw their name into the hat for this so called airline.

Buy up a company for pennies on the dollar I would assume.

Either way, seems a bit late now to save the airline.

Could AC potentially just see the value of Jet Airways being its slots for LHR, CDG, etc., and its aircraft (assuming it owns any, vs leases)?

It's not for the slots. If AC wants more slots at LHR, there are simpler ways to get it.

As for the planes, Jet Airways leases the majority of its planes and most of them are grounded due to lease payment defaults.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...rounde-457422/

Quote:

The latest disclosure takes the number of aircraft grounded for lease defaults to 80, out of a fleet of 120 before the groundings started earlier in the year.

While that would indicate that the airline still has around 40 aircraft in service, reports from India indicate that there are as few as 14 aircraft in service.

LeftCoaster Apr 13, 2019 12:35 AM

Leases may be on good terms though, which they could acquire?

Not sure why they'd be interested otherwise.

Canadian Transportation Agency issues determination in Sunwing inquiry – Sunwing to pay $694,500 penalty

https://otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/content/ca...ing-pay-694500

Quote:

The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) today issued its determination, in the matter of widespread service issues experienced by passengers on Sunwing flights to or from Toronto Pearson International Airport or Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, between April 14 and 18, 2018.

A CTA designated enforcement officer subsequently issued a Notice of Violation against the airline.

Findings
The CTA found that Sunwing did not properly apply its scheduled international tariff rules in respect of:

flight delays, including the provision of hotel and meal vouchers to passengers;
communication, including communication on flight status and information about delayed or lost baggage; and
tarmac delays.
Additionally, the CTA found that the Montreal Convention applies to any Sunwing baggage and delay claim related to this event. The CTA also found that, in circumstances such as these, the airline is responsible for any failings by its agents who provide services on its behalf.

Compensation
Sunwing must compensate passengers for out-of-pocket expenses incurred as a consequence of its failure to properly apply the terms and conditions set out in its Scheduled International Tariff no later than June 28, 2019.

As the Montreal Convention applies to all of its international flights, Sunwing must also compensate passengers for reasonable expenses incurred as a result of flight delays experienced by passengers or loss, damage or delay to passengers' baggage.

These expenses include:

expenses for hotel accommodations, transfers to hotels and meal expenses incurred as a result of the delay; and
expenses for lost, delayed or damaged baggage, including the cost of replacement items.
This Determination addresses the 574 active complaints filed by individual passengers with the CTA. Sunwing must make every effort to contact the passengers and settle expense claims individually with all passengers who are owed compensation, whether or not they submitted complaints. The parties can avail themselves of the CTA's facilitation and mediation services, which are available free of charge, to the extent required to reach agreement on compensation.

The CTA does not have the statutory authority to award general damages or compensation to passengers for matters such as any inconvenience, stress, pain and suffering, or loss of vacation time.

Penalty
In addition to compensation owed to passengers, a CTA Designated Enforcement Officer has issued a penalty of $694,500 against the airline. Sunwing has until May 10, 2019 to pay the penalty.

Orders
Sunwing must prepare a contingency plan to ensure it meets its tariff obligations in cases of future widespread flight disruptions. Information on this plan must be provided to the CTA no later than August 30, 2019.

In addition, Sunwing must revise and refile its lost or damaged baggage international tariff provisions to be consistent with the Montreal Convention, no later than May 8, 2019.

Quote
"This is a significant determination for air passengers and air carriers. It underscores that passengers have rights and recourse when their air travel is disrupted, and that even when problems stem from events such as bad weather, there is a minimum standard of treatment to which all passengers are entitled."
– Scott Streiner, Chair and CEO of the Canadian Transportation Agency

Air Canada updates India schedule in response to ongoing airspace restrictions

April 15, 2019 Author: CanIndia News Online Editor

Air Canada has updated its schedule to India following the continued airspace restrictions in the area of Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

From June 15 to July 14, 2019, Air Canada will temporarily suspend its Toronto-Delhi flights. Air Canada’s Vancouver-Delhi flights will continue to operate daily as scheduled.

“We are very committed to the India market, and we remain in close contact with various international authorities. Since the airspace restrictions impacting Indira Gandhi International Airport were enacted, Air Canada has undertaken several operational initiatives to continue operating our flights to and from India. The complexities from the ongoing airspace restrictions have resulted in longer routings requiring enroute fueling stops, crew changes and implementing aircraft weight restrictions affecting passengers and cargo which make the Delhi-Toronto non-stop flight unfeasible to continue at this time. As a result of these new constraints, we have made an operational decision to temporarily suspend our Toronto-Delhi flights for one month,” said John MacLeod, Vice President, Global Sales and Alliances at Air Canada.

Update from the YHZ thread in the Halifax subforum. Part of the terminal is being expanded to allow for a larger security screening area (with CATSA Plus) on level 1, as well as an extended passenger waiting area on level 2, with new retail/f+b spaces.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. The additional fuel/costs required must eat up a good chunk of the profits.

Canada-India being a low yielding market, any hiccup like this means cancelations are more than likely.

What does the flight path look like YVR<—>DEL versus YYZ<—>DEL (with airspace restrictions and without)?

Old flight to YVR took off from DEL, overflew Pakistan towards Afghanistan (to avoid the Himalayan plateau), and from there followed more or less the great circle route to YVR.

Around 11,500-12,000 km (+4% compared to optimal great circle routing)

Due to Pakistan airspace closure, that routing is no longer possible

New route is 14,021 km (+25.6%) towards Myanmar, China, Japan, and then over the Pacific to YVR. (Distance and routing is today's AC43 DEL-YVR run)

Interesting developments on the MAXgate front.

Boeing completed their 737 Max test flights. Over 120 test flights with over 200 hours of air time was done. The CEO of Boeing was on one of the test flights.

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...-fligh-457562/

A day before the last test flight, a panel appointed by the FAA said pilots will not need new training on flight simulators to learn how to operate the MAX. The draft report mentioned that computer and classroom instruction about new anti-stall software should be adequate for pilots who have flown earlier versions of the 737.

Marc Garneau disagrees and wants simulator time for anyone flying the Max in Canadian airspace.

https://canadianaviationnews.wordpre...anadian-skies/

Quote:

Transport Minister Marc Garneau says airlines hoping to fly the Boeing 737 Max 8 in Canadian airspace must first train their pilots using a flight simulator.

The call goes further than recommendations from U.S. regulators as training procedures for the grounded plane come under continued scrutiny following two deadly crashes.

“Simulators are the very best way, from a training point of view, to go over exactly what could happen in a real way and to react properly to it,” Garneau said.

“It’s part of it – the software fixes… and the training itself, which in my mind requires simulation time,” he said at an event in Montreal Wednesday.
AC agrees with Garneau's stance and on Thursday said its MAX pilots were reviewing aircraft systems for the grounded planes, and that they would decide on further training pending final recommendations from regulators.

AC is the only carrier in the US and Canada with 737 MAX simulators.

https://canadianaviationnews.wordpre...al-flight-ban/

According to the following 2015 article, AC owns 2 Max simulators, both of which are in Toronto.
