I feel the same thing about DEN too. YYC will go from just one airline (UA) to three this year serving that market (WS starting in March and F9 starting in May). WS I can see making the route work, but not so sure about F8.

Great news for me! Can't wait to have more options to get back to YXE.

Air Canada’s press release.

With that addition, AC mainline will fly to 14 long-haul destinations from YVR this summer with the additions of MEL, CDG and ZRH as well. AC continuing to spread its wings at YVR.

This quote struck me: "Air Canada is committing close to $1.5 billion worth of aircraft between Canada and India, underscoring our commitment to this vibrant market and to our continuing strategic, global expansion." Really emphasizes the investment required in the airline industry.

Huge news, 4x per week in the summer, 5x winter and daily for the peak winter period!

The timing is much better now too, not arriving in Delhi at midnight anymore.

I'm always amazed by the non-stop destinations available at every major Canadian airport except Quebec City.

lol....that's probably because YQB isn't a major Canadian airport......although, to be fair, it does have year round service to CDG. (very sporadic schedule in winter, but it's considered year round none the less)

I feel as though the current times....

AC044 YVR1130 – 1510+1DEL 789 x36
AC045 DEL1720 – 1815YVR 789 x47

.......are better than what they are proposing for next summer.

I wonder if it could support more CDG service. Quebec City could have a pretty big catchment area, and YUL is located on the "far side" of Montreal.

I think AC would prefer a non-midday/afternoon time to avoid the heat in DEL. Flying a heavy bird on a long and thin route like YVR-DEL would be a lot easier with dense, cooler air.

DEL is also very foggy in the morning/mid-day during winter, the peak travel season.

as for passengers, ppl in J would have a better flight and i suspect like the early morning start to the days/onward connection possibilities.

That means this year, YUL will need a 10.14% increase to hit 20 million. Will be hard to do.

Guess it will have to go to 2019 then. November 2019's my guess for the 20 millionth passenger...

Some more info...

YUL aircraft movements for 2017 according to ADM: 234,254

Will it be enough to overtake YYC? We'll see.

International passengers: 11,243,498 (that represents 62% of total passenger count), and hopefully will be enough to make it in the top 10 list of North America.

Breakdown:
Domestic: 6,916,725 (+7.5%)
Non-US intl: 7,135,975 (+13.5%), and still well ahead of YVR for 2nd highest figure in the country.
US:4,107,523 (+6.2%)

234,254 in 2017 for CYUL is almost identical to CYYC for 2016 - 234,422 (source: Stats Canada CANSIM table 401-0023). I will be curious to see how CYYC compares for 2017 once the figures are released.

Most likely CYYC will have lower numbers, do you expect anything else?

DrNest Feb 1, 2018 1:36 AM

It's hard to guess with regards to CYYC. The other big Canadian airports have seen growth or at least staying at about the same figure over the past 4 years. Whereas Calgary dropped approx 9% in total movements compared to 2015. I don't know if there was some other contributing factor that was specific to 2016 affecting Calgary but am interested to see how 2017 turns out.

Something's not right here. 1,4M passengers in December, thats an average of 45000 passengers per day. We hit 18M passengers on December 18, leaving only 160000 passengers for the remaining 12 days of the year giving an average of only 13000 passengers per day for those last 12 days of the year. Ok, not a lot of people travel on December 24th, 25th and 26th but still... So I understand Thenoflyzone when he said we should be expecting 18,35M. I would of even said 18.45M. So I think ADM got their 18th million passenger more around December 27th or 28th and not on December 18th.

Ok maybe we hit 18.050.000 on December 22....not exactly 18 mil. 210.000 divided by 9 23k a day which after holidays...it’s possible.
