I quoted a UT story from last year that had this bit in it about 880 W Broadway, but removed it because it had nothing to do with the Irvine Company tower in UTC. Here's the quoted text.

"Bosa is also rumored to be in discussions with The Irvine Company to buy back the lot (currently approved for a future high-rise office tower) on the NE corner of PCH and Broadway (just south of The Grande) to develop another high-rise condo tower. Back in 2007, Bosa sold the site to Irvine for a reported $60 million. Irvine had planned to develop 880 West Broadway, a Pei designed 685,000 sf office tower – but the office leasing market has been too soft to support developing the project."

Why would this be good for SD? I mean this as a serious question, not trying to be a dick.

I heard a ballpark figure of $10 billion for the Olympics. I just don't see this happening in this town considering how difficult it has been for the Chargers to find financing for a new stadium, the state of our current infrastructure is in disrepair and the public schools are an absolute mess right now.

Seeing the benefits that London has reaped from the Olympics, even in the short term is amazing. If anything similar happened here it would help San Diego businesses tremendously. Also, it could help many of the stalled infrastructure improvements get pushed through in a much shorter time than it would usually take. I fully respect your opinion but, in mine I believe that the Olympics could help the city.

Hosting the olympics is always an investment. Cities pay a lot of money up front, but the infrastructure and tax revenue they get from it can be worthwhile. Not sure if would be worth it for san diego, but that's because we haven't seen what improvements would be made to the city with the money spent.

According to this article, 11th & Broadway is a Pinnacle development, which is the same developer as 15th & Island (see pic below). I would guess that 11th & Broadway will be scheduled to ramp up, as 15th & Island nears completion.

Agree Olympics would be great for SD.

Unfortunately, the Filner scandal would prevent any serious consideration of us.

Ironically, Filner was promoting a bi-national Olympics with us and TJ.

Interesting that Pinnacle is building two sets of twin towers: two 45 story towers (15th & Island), and two 32 story towers (11th & B). To your point of adding variety, perhaps they could have swapped out the towers and given both sites a 45 and 32 story tower for some variation. However, I'm neither a developer or an architect, so I'm sure there is a reason they are going about this the way they have, economic or otherwise. All that said, I like the massive scale of 15th & Island, which will extend and anchor the skyline deep into EV.
