The bass in that video from all the activity gives the subwoofer a good workout. So much activity.

To the average simpleton, this will come as a surprise. Most probably have no clue this will be the tallest in the U.S. (or 2nd...). Like 432, when it starts to become overpowering, then they will know. They will know... :D

We on the otherhand are enjoying the party VIP style from day one.

With 111 w 57th at 1438 ft, I'm hoping Barnett will go 1522' + as in 1550 ft; with NY Yimby''s latest info it looks like the top occupied floor will be 1450' (community obs deck?), which is only surpassed by the CN Tower space deck at 1465'. Spire should be taller than 1WTC spantenna. Nobody even cares about the totally bogus 1776' of 1WTC... :koko:

I actually prefer the night time look of tons of tall buildings without lit crowns. All the "little tiny" points of light from all the windows makes a cool effect, but lit crowns kinda ruin the effect. For example, from some photos NYguy referenced in another thread:

Hi guys!
There is a resume of the construction during the first half of this year:

8.8.15

Not much progress besides the core rising 1 floor above street level. Hopefully construction will pick up after the 3 crane is assembled.

This is the year 2015. Every construction site should have webcams. Of course every car was supposed 2 b flying this year as well.

Oh boy... Source tells me that the spire has been removed and now the height is just the tower: 1550'. :(

JR Ewing Aug 14, 2015 5:39 PM

I like the spire. Maybe the height will increase further. Maybe Gary will revert to the original design!

babybackribs2314 Aug 14, 2015 6:47 PM

...the tower is not 1,550' so that doesn't make sense

No, as in the spire was removed and the tower height increased (or just pushed back to the old design height).

vandelay Aug 14, 2015 7:38 PM

The spire was pointless. Hopefully it's gone.

Vertical_Gotham Aug 14, 2015 7:47 PM

Hmmm. Great just when you think we have a good idea of what will rise, there is more uncertainty. smh. #neverending

I like the spire too, but 1,550 solid to the roof would be nice. We shall see.

it would seem more likely that the info is based on the older version as everything is now permitted/approved for a 1,522' pinnacle but we shall see...

The tower was never 1550.

And I doubt there's no spire, as that's been pretty integral to the design since the beginning. Unless the building has been entirely redesigned I can't imagine it not having a spire.

NO SPIRE ? . . . God help us.
one4all - who is your source ? . .
This building stripped of it's unique corner spire -
goes from super excellent tallest in USA perfect icon . . to . . .
who gives a rip how tall this cr*ppy anorexic glass pencil-box is ! . .
- visually way UNworthy of NYC's tallest.

Yes that is how important a single detail can be . .
Unlike other mal-proportioned spires around town -
this enhancing asymmetrical feature is the needed punctuation . . .
that perfectly accents the tower's preeminence . .
Its emphasis sharply soars off the tall thinness of this building . .
giving it that extra - much needed - oomph! . .
Without it 217 W57th is just another malnourished architectural non-event . . albeit tall.

NYC really needs this one . . . I very much look forward to One Vanderbilt . . .
and to Tower Verre . . even though Amanda macheted its soaring height . .
Silverstein oversaw design-mutilation of 2 big important WTC towers (T2 & T3) . . .
432 Park & 111 W57th are fine hper-thin curiosities that wonderfully jagg the skyline . .
Related's KPF HY towers are crowded by a forest of unremarkable glass placeholders . .

But Here - I was really hoping that the (217 W57th - 220 CPS) combo -
would give this town a new skyscraper "pride-of-place" focal-point . . .
something finally architecturally equal to the dynamic minimal supremacy of the twins.
or the nonchalant confidence of the ESB . . or the old downtown cluster of towers . .
that sturdy old - yet romantic - '30s deco stone bouquet . .
(now hidden behind clumsy boxes).
But we definitely NEED this crowning emblem . . to make an unqualified statement . . .

Pete8680 Aug 14, 2015 10:15 PM

I'd rather see a 1,550 foot roof WITH NO SPIRE. Then a spire
that comes up a pathetic 1 foot short of the WTC Spire/.:hell:

Shwayze1994 Aug 14, 2015 11:21 PM

This building would look terrible without the spire. Just another boring glass box with a cool cantilever.

chris08876 Aug 15, 2015 12:22 AM

The spire for WTC1 was pretty good until they value built it. Nordstrom had a good spire from the beginning. At least based on the renderings. Although this project is starting to bother me because its a shroud of confusion and speculation.
