A high reach excavator could take the tower down in a couple days after abatements are done. Floor by floor would take a lot longer. Seems worthwhile to ship one in. We'll see

teddifax Nov 20, 2021 12:18 AM

They must be still doing abatement! Nothing much else has gone on for the past week.... the dumpster outside is loaded with the yellow Hazardous goods bags for disposal. I live across the street and have basically a front row seat to it all.... should be interesting. I hope any animal matter has been exterminated before the building is demolished, wouldn't want any unwanted visitors!

From afar it looked like the excavators for demo were being hoisted to the roof.

teddifax Feb 19, 2022 5:44 PM

I live across the street and they are assembling some sort of crane today, I believe will be used to lift the demolition equipment to the roof. https://www.flickr.com/photos/184867771@N07/?

Are these ok, can they be seen? I don't know if I am doing it correctly.

The top half of the penthouse was lifted off today in one piece.

There isn't much left on the roof of the building now, just part of the lower level and the elevator shaft.

No pictures but I was reading that once demolition is complete excavation will begin immediately with a blasting permit already approved.

Construction Management Plan for this project.

It looks like the second tower massing has a back section. I can't see this in the only picture they show.

And the chapter closes on Halifax's version of the Capitol Records building (tongue-in-cheek). It may not have been all that substantial, but at least it was somewhat unique. Often wondered what the apartment layout was like with that round shape.

I had a 1 BR there more years ago than I'd like to admit and it was very much wedge-shaped, as you'd expect.

IIRC you'd open the door and there was small closet and a little open kitchen on the left, and a small space for a dining area on the right. As you moved past those there was a small bathroom on the left and then a decent sized bedroom, and on the right the dining area continued into a living room. There was little room for storage, so you had a storage stall in the basement instead.

One thing I really liked was that that the interior walls between the apartments were masonry block. The quietest apartment building I ever lived in, and you could listen to (reasonably) loud music without getting complaints.

I can tell the building was well-made.... as they are demolishing it, you can see the cinder blocks between apartments. It is taking a LONG time to get this down. Three full weeks today and they have only knocked out the windows, taken off the equipment on the top and are only really excavated on the south side of the building, only fully down a couple of stories....

Thanks! So the elevator was in the middle of the building with a circular lobby (no hallways due to the wedge-shaped units)?

Yes exactly.

I'm not sure what the 2BR units were like or even if there were any...

Progress has picked up this week. The south face of the building is to grade, it appears a large excavator with shears will assist on the lower levels.

kph06 Apr 12, 2022 12:23 AM

I wouldn’t be surprised if this building is down by the end of this week or just after Easter. There is enough of a pile at the base an excavator can probably assist with the lower half. I would say half the building footprint is gone now.

Four more pics to document the ever nearing complete destruction of this building.
