Is it me or have they taken a really long time to build this thing? I got married at the Park Lane in 2016 and would walk over and take pics of the construction site, went back in 2017 and 2018 and it's still not done. The Vanderbilt is a much bigger building and has gone up much faster.

Yea same, part of it could be the unique design (cantilever etc.). It also has a high floor count and buildings are built floor by floor. One Vanderbilt's real floor count is about 35 fewer.

I guess some construction managers just push harder than others too ;)

no plebs allowed i'm afraid. we just get to look at this thing the tallest building in the greatest city and cry.

Were spoiled that's what it is. Plenty of decks.

30 Hudson, ESB , Top of the Rock, 1 WTC, Vanderbilt in the future (don't forget about Vandy!) ... the Vessel (should count as one). Also some wicked places to get some views, like if one is willing to walk on the GWB (best skyline view IMO).

Over in NJ, we have some natural cliff side observation ledges. Union City, above the cliffs, is a great location.

And if one is adventurous, take a helicopter ride over the city. Best bang for the buck. Best 20-30 minutes one will spend for a mental imagery that will be ingrained in ones mind.

Plenty of ways to view NYC. From the air, and from the street. From roof top bars, to pretending to stop for repairs on the NJ turnpike to take in the views. On a side note, if one is to stop for "repairs", with thier flashers on, Chris recommends this spot right here for "repairs"...

Eagle Rock Reservation is also worth a trip if one is in NJ. On a clear day, it will make your jaw drop. Also if one is cheap (free on weekends), just go to Newark, near NJIT, and go on the weekends to the NJIT parking deck. Go to the top top of the deck, and enjoy the view. Newark NJ, right by Branch Brook Park, has one section that is elevated way above sea level, and provides a unique angular approach to the skyline. Staten Island, Statue of Liberty... so many ways to view the skyline.

Plus the security risk. The ESB, the Rock and the WTC have to have intense security because they are tempting targets.

Oh yeh I know but nothing from that vantage point though Steinway would have been better as it is central so to speak. Hoping when whatever is built over at the Manhattan Hotel plot being near Times Square we will get a deck there.

+thanks for other info :)

And Chrysler Bldg. new ownership is reportedly considering reopening the deck.

Is there curved glass on the East facade, top quarter of the building? Definitely did not see that in any renderings, if so. Nice touch. It make for beautiful views.

NyGuy, I'm talking about what appears to be curved glass on the SE corner of the building. It begins in the same plane as the tip of Tower Verre. Could just be the lighting when this shot was taken..
