Apologies if you guys have already seen this, but I was looking for some updates on the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan and I found this pdf from the Joint Powers Authority Board Meeting on May 28th:

It has some useful updates, info, and pics.

Yay! Thank you.

I just got a tweet from the port that they expect the light fixtures from poland anytime now

Port of San Diego ‏@portofsandiego 8h
@bertrice76 we’re hoping to receive them any day now —they’re unique fixtures imported from Poland. Thanks for the question!

Nice! I was wondering what was taking so long.

I don't know if any of you have been to Horton Plaza recently, but that mall is in trouble. Everywhere you turn there are vacant stores. And it's not even the usual emptiness on the higher levels, but all over the place. I noticed the Coach is gone (louis vuitton booked it over a year ago), which means there are no "high-end" stores at Horton now. Unless you count some of the sectional areas in Nordy's. I love the design of the mall, but it does look very tired these days.

One La Jolla Center topped out yesterday, ahead of schedule.

SDFAN: I have been thinking the same thing about Horton I mean Westfield must be hemorrhaging money on that property. Who goes there? I seems to be always dead when I am there. You wonder if it can ever be revived... Not really sure what you could do with it, to expensive to tear it down and start over. It's kind of becoming a deadspot downtown and you wonder what Bill Fulton is thinking long term about what to do with that beast.

That's pretty sad, I haven't been there in awhile, so I didn't realize this was happening. It makes sense considering it was built during the 1980s, though. This kind of shopping center just doesn't fit anymore with our downtown. It really needs to open up to the surrounding streets.

I wonder if the new park and the remodel Westfield has planned will help.

Anyone know what's planned for the former Gen Lai Sen restaurant lot? It's looks like they're getting ready to scrap it.

^^^Correction to some previous posts. The UT article shows this project to be 2 32-story towers, however the developer lists that there will be 2 40-story towers on their website.

^ Looking good. Can't wait to see this come together.

Makes me wonder what is in store for the land that this project will free up near the waterfront.

tyleraf Jul 2, 2014 12:37 AM

Hopefully some nice high end mid rise Hotels and a park go in there. Or better yet, we could put a new Charger Stadium there. ;)

NEVP will open on the fourth but still isn't finished. the article brags that so much has been done in 2 and a half years. The 49ers built a stadium in less time. while this city widened a sidewalk and put in a gazebo

Nice to see things FINALLY wrapping up. Hopefully phase 2 gets rolling soon.

A few more details from the UT:

Man, I'd be excited if they end up with Carnitas Snack Shack on the waterfront...

nezbn22 Jul 2, 2014 5:50 PM

Also from the UT, they scheduled the new fire station:

I really hate that cheap gravel/dirt. It looks terrible at the new park.

tyleraf Jul 3, 2014 5:13 AM

I know. Why can't they just put pavement or grass in. It would be a lot better looking.

spoonman Jul 3, 2014 5:47 AM

Anyone go to or hear about the city planning meeting tonight?
