That is pretty far east. To further that point, I was in the warehouse district yesterday along Leeland and was pleasantly surprised by the continued construction. It appears a couple of warehouses are about to be razed for what I assume will be more of Frank Liu's townhome projects.

Uh, what about the Royalton at River Oaks? What about the Museum Tower? What about the Robinhood? What about One Park Place under construction for the last few weeks?

As an aside, I like the simple look of the Highland Tower. I also like the idea of some smaller hi-rises going up in the 10 to 18 story range. Those have always appealed to me. Now, if someone would just build one in midtown/museum district area on the light rail line...

I just went through the Highland Tower site. This actually wont be a part of the Oaks District or the High Street. Instead, it will be located behind those to the North (towards San Felipe). In fact, this tower is proposed to go near the corner of Bettis Drive and Briarglen Drive right behind the Briarglen. In fact, the same team (Pelican Builders and Ziegler Cooper) were involved with the Briarglen.

The best thing about this site is all of the proposals nearby that are on the locater map. They include;

The Oaks District (phase one with 2 luxury hotels, 300 residences, 80,000 square feet of office space, and 350,000 square feet of retail

High Street (luxury apartments and retail)

Another proposal by Pelican Builders (not named) behind the Briarglen and Highland Tower

Morgan Residential proposal for luxury multi-family

Coach Realty proposal for luxury condos

It is on the NORTH side of Bettis. From the project website, it appears to be on the corner of Bettis Drive and Briarglen Drive. That would put it immediately SOUTH of the brand new 8 story Briarglen Condo project that just went up. They will be neighbors, which is not surprising since it is the EXACT same development team and architectural firm.

The website has lots of info and pdf maps (sorry, I don't know how to lift pdfs to post them on here or else I would). It also talks about the High Street proposal, the Oaks District proposal (phase I), and shows other area projects like a possible multi-family by the Morgan Group as well as a new condo community.

Um, Wow! I would love to see that towering 24 stories in the Montrose. I love that.

That certainly gives you a better idea of what the project would look like in real terms. Although, as you said, WG, it may not be the one for Westheimer.

I guess being away from this site for a while has its benefits. WOW at Houston City Centre. I am itching to hear more about that. Also where exactly is that Westheimer Tower suppose to sit. I am very curious since vjhe mentions Montrose, but exactly where?

My office downtown faces fannin where the discovery green/park tower site is and one of the cranes there fell over onto a truck on fannin... you may see something in the news about this later.

Just East of MMP.. The parking lots are currently under the control of the houston Astros but from the news they would be intrested in having the Dynamo Stadium built downtown in that location.

That would be a GREAT location for a stadium. I hope they built it similarly to the one up in Frisco so that it could hold outdoor concerts and such. Noise from the elevated 59 could be a factor though...

In other news, more from the Med Center...

MD Anderson Cancer Center has leaked info about three new projects;

1) A 10 floor addition to the existing Rotary House Hotel. It will add 155 rooms.

2) A 930,000 square foot Admin. Building to be built on the corner of Braeswood and Bertner. I am not sure what is currently on the site, but I am hoping it goes up instead of sprawls (this could easily be a 30 to 35 story tower)

3) A 532,000 square foot Diagnostic and Treatment Center to be built somewhere along Braeswood and Holcombe

I hope it does.

lol. The only thing I do not like about the rendering you posted WG, is the angular parking. I like the parallel parking a bit more. I don't know. Just my preference seeing as how I never really cared for angle parking.

Yes, it's the development across from the 2727 River Oaks tower.

The West Ave. project looks really nice. If the renderings turn out to be anything like the built project, we'll have a winner on our hands. It will be just another reason for the rail to go down Richmond instead of Westpark since this project stretches pretty far to the South of Westheimer (will take up all of the old tennis center).

My only complaint; why oh why can't anyone build something like this on the current rail line in midtown or the museum district? Can you imagine a project like this on the rail line near the museums? It would be KILLER.

What is this Westheimer Tower?

Where would you place it, if I assuming you are talking about near or on the Museum District station? The most prime lot is that tree filled parking lot owned by St Paul's Methodist and there is another one where members of the Presbyterian Church parks. The only way I can see a change in that area if there was a mixed use garage built for surrounding blocks to park in.

I can only imagine that the land values are so high that it takes a really ballsy developer to develop along the rail line (that is, on the level of West Avenue, Westcreek, High Street or Regency Square). Of course, there is a promising new residential development going up in the Museum District along the rail line but I don't think it will have a hint of retail (correct my memory if it's faulty).

Anyway, the West Avenue project has always been one of great interest to me. Even the original plans suggested something profound, and given its location, the Kirby Corridor should be quite the attraction once you add in the new development near Rice Village.

And I'm not as high on parallel parking from a functional standpoint. The people who would drive to a location like West Avenue would probably prefer head in parking, which is less aggravating, especially when the traffic volume is high.

Eh, the whole parking thing is not a big deal to me either. I guess if they were looking for a two lane/two way street it was the way to go. Although if preferred, I would have made the sidewalk wider to make for parallel parking. (I understand the whole traditional retail district feel, but when it comes down to it there is no logical reason for the preference.) I am sure it is to cut down on building more parking spaces in another location anyway. Plus this place is a destination (private street development) rather than a piece of a mosiac that makes up a neighborhood (public street development), so it attracts more motorist. A lot of great neighborhoods in the inner loop are experiencing more & more visitors & residents that can't quite quit the car habit sort of like the Village.

I drove by 2727, this past weekend. I was wandering what was happening across the street there. It looks really awesome. Cant wait to see this project really take off...
