Well, we know where OWG will be flying.

In other news, Pakistan is making the headlines for all the wrong reasons, yet again.....

First, the PIA A320 crash in Karachi. Preliminary report blames it on human error. Pilots and ATC have some blame. The pilots inexplicably raised the landing gear at 5 miles final, landed and scraped both engines on the runway for several thousand feet before pulling up and going around, and then crashing, since, you know, the engines were shot.....insane stuff !

Second, the fake licenses. 262 of 860 pilots in Pakistan have fake licenses. At PIA specifically, the number of "fake" pilots is 150 ! Kind of explains point #1 above doesn't it !

Third: The EU and the US have banned PIA from their airspaces. PIA hasnt flown to the US for 3 years now, but was planning to resume service last May.

Which begs the question: Why hasn't Canada banned PIA? Especially when the airline flies to YYZ, is a known contraband flight by CBSA, and on top of all of that, this happened last week.

In other other news,

QF have closed inventory for all international flights except to NZ until March 2021.

https://www.executivetraveller.com/n...-to-march-2021

Quote:

Qantas has removed almost all international flights through to the end of March 2021 from its website – a date which would mark a full year since the airline first grounded its international fleet due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While the flights themselves have not been cancelled, and all previous bookings remain in place, the move prevents new bookings from being made on any overseas Qantas route except for flights to New Zealand.

duplicate post.

But since the error was made, might as well use the space.

Here is a nice article and video about the end of life disassembly of an Air transat A310 at YMX.

The company in question, Aerocycle, provides end-of-life aircraft disassembly, part-out, teardown and recycling services. They're the only company in Canada that recycle airliners. Apparently, they can recycle 93 to 94% of an aircraft like the A310. Pretty impressive. That must make YMX the only airport in the world where commercial airliners can be assembled from A to Z and then disassembled from Z to A !

Article and Video in french only. Pretty cool to watch an A310 disappear in a matter of hours.

Exactly. Wouldn’t get Transport Canada certified without it.

Why would WS even consider any 763 ops at all going forward? I thought they were retired and sold?

hollywoodcory Jul 13, 2020 12:25 AM

^WS hasn't updated it's September schedule yet. The 767s aren't coming back.

OWG partnered with Caribe Sol/Hola Sun. Flights begin Nov 1. So much for going at it alone.

Or that was always the planned relationship from when this first started. This would be a tour operator who use to primarily use space on AirTransat moving over to OWG.

thenoflyzone Jul 14, 2020 1:23 PM

I guess so. If you go to holasunholidays.ca, flights are already bookable. Looks like it will be YUL and YYZ to CCC, SNU, HOG and VRA.

It could be a situation where they'll sell a block of seats each flight on their own.

Following Air Canada's capacity cuts in Quebec, an upstart carrier "Treq" is planning to enter the regional market with a fleet of Dash 8-300s and 400s.

A co-op airline. Interesting concept. Maybe Treq could contract with MEC for their uniforms. ;)

No doubt DH4s are plentiful right now, but is that overkill for intra-Quebec? Pascan have learned that ATRs are too big and are now transitioning to smaller SF3s.

They'd be more successful though looking beyond the borders of La Belle Province and look to flying to YOW and YYZ too and ZBF in New Brunswick and maybe even YWK in Labrador.

The GTAA are following almost all other airport authorities with staff layoffs.

https://globalnews.ca/news/7174106/g...-jobs-pearson/

Quote:

The operator of Canada’s largest airport is cutting the size of its workforce by 27 per cent, including some of its management, due to a reduction of air traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority announced Tuesday that 500 positions to be eliminated, including 300 that will involve layoffs and voluntary departures.

The rest of the positions are currently vacant.

The GTAA said passenger levels at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport have fallen to 1996 operating levels since the pandemic slowed the amount of air travel.
Traffic is only at 1996 levels if you include January and February being 'normal' months into the equation. Reality is for April-December is traffic will be closer to 1966 levels.

Where do you see Dash -300s ? All the news links say Q400s exclusively. Which is the wrong aircraft for most/if not all of these routes.

I wish them luck but I doubt it’s going to work. They seem to think demand isn’t there because prices are high. It’s the other way around really. Prices are high because there is little demand. If AC could barely make these routes work with Dash 100s and 300s, good luck making them work with Q400s.

Pascan’s aircraft are better sized for these routes. The only problem is they fly to YHU, not YUL. So no connections to intl flights possible, unless you do it on your own, which if done on the same day is risky!

Proposed route map and website: http://treq.ca/

https://smartcdn.prod.postmedia.digi...trip=all&w=564

Above I had mentioned serving YOW, YYZ and YWK. Looks like they've thought of that with YWK on the map, proposing YND (Gatineau) for the NCR and interlining (Porter?) to serve Toronto.

A DH3 or DH4 from the NCR to the GMA, yikes! YND-YQB would make far more sense, but it's already served by Air Liaison...although it's suspended indefinitely thanks to Covid.

YOW would likely be too expensive for them, hence Gatineau.
