YEG is embarking on a 280 acre retail/commercial/light industrial project directly in front (east) of the airport.

Phase 1 is an 80acre development with 2 new hotels, highway commercial, retail and light industrial/logistics.

Nice. A bit sprawly but... it's by an airport, what are you going to do.

Love the "porthole" treatments..nice. Are these all over the airport?

SignalHillHiker May 10, 2013 6:51 PM

That is all the airport. :haha:

Article on planned upgrades to YHZ (Halifax Stanfield International Airport).

Here are some photos of the proposed changes to the south portion of the terminal (from YHZ's facebook page):

This isn't much of a posting; however, I was passing through Edmonton Int'l enroute to Regina --- and I was MOST impressed with the expansion/appearance of the terminal building!!! Way to go Edmonton!!!

Airports Council International (preliminary results)

Either Calgary is hitting way above it's weight or Montreal is hitting way below, seems crazy to me that Calgary has virtually the same number of passengers as a city nearly 4x the size. Is there competition in the eastern part of the country aside from Toronto?

Coldrsx Aug 29, 2013 5:30 PM

Western Hub

MalcolmTucker Aug 29, 2013 5:33 PM

Plus Calgary is pretty far away from other major cities, save for Edmonton.

Chadillaccc Aug 29, 2013 6:31 PM

I can't imagine how drastically that number is going to increase once the expansion opens next year, effectively doubling the size of the airport and bringing Canada's two longest runways online. Apparently a few new routes will come with the opening of the new terminal as well.

Calgarian Aug 29, 2013 6:37 PM

I know we are a western hub, but shouldn't Montreal be an Eastern hub, and the main one for all of Quebec? What kind of numbers do Quebec City and Ottawa put up? they should be similar to Montreal as Edmonton is to Calgary. All that aside, I'm really happy to see Calgary continue to kick ass and take names!

Here are the 2012 numbers:

Toronto 34,912,456
Vancouver 17,596,901
Montreal 13,809,820
Calgary 13,638,137
Edmonton 6,676,445
Ottawa 4,685,956
Halifax 3,605,701
Winnipeg 3,538,175
Victoria 1,506,578
St. John's 1,450,000
Kelowna 1,440,952
Quebec City 1,342,840
Saskatoon 1,326,838
Regina 1,185,715

Chadillaccc Aug 29, 2013 7:11 PM

Halifax and Kelowna both punch really heavy above their weight!

I've been to Kelowna's airport and I have to say, I don't know how it handles that many people a year.

OTSkyline Aug 29, 2013 7:13 PM

Ottawa (YOW) brings in over 4,500,000 per year approx. We are "punished" by being squeezed in between YUL and YYZ so not many flights since people can easily drive to Montreal or Toronto to catch one and most of the flights are YOW-YYZ (we must have like 40 flights to and from Toronto daily)...
