YYC-PEK is no different. It will start at least at 3x weekly, or it won't start at all. |

I have some serious Dreamliner action ahead of me in just three weeks from now! :)
YVR-YYZ Air Canada 787-8 YYZ-SCL Air Canada 77W SCL-IPC LAN Airlines 787-8 IPC-SCL LAN Airlines 787-9 SCL-YYZ Air Canada 77W YYZ-YVR Air Canada 787-9 So four flights on two different Dreamliners on both Air Canada and LAN Airlines. Can't wait! Anyone know if Air Canada has HD configuration on their 777s between YYZ and SCL? I wasn't able to quickly find the answer, but would not like to experience that. :???: My trip would really benefit from YVR having a South American connection. It is not too bad via YYZ either, as it takes me 17 hours to get from Vancouver to Santiago. It would take an hour less with American Airlines through DFW, which is the fastest connection. So the difference is not huge, of course direct flight would be even faster than that... This is a pretty ad-hoc trip that I only began planning few days ago. Seems to be a decent time to travel to Chile but too bad that the ski season is already over. I am really looking forward to visiting the most remote island in the world, Easter Island. :) |
:previous:
Sounds like a great trip, but which is the most remote island in the world - Easter Island or Pitcairn Island?? |
Pitcairn Island doesn't have any airstrip and can only be reached by boat. I guess there are few small islands and uninhabited atolls like that, but Easter Island is very very far from everything. I really look forward to seeing the amazing night sky with no light pollution in sight.

^ Bon voyage! Looking forward to the pics.
Not sure what kind of seating config AC uses on your route, but I can tell you that having just come back from a very long flight on a 77W in HD economy (with a toddler no less), the experience was way better than I expected and was frankly dreading based on what I heard. It was no worse than other econ flights I have taken overseas. |
Ah, that's a relief to hear. I have only once flown with an Air Canada 777 which made a layover in Vancouver on its way to Toronto (flew the YVR-YYZ leg). I think they have HD configuration on that exact route and I also didn't find it bad. And I am 190cm tall.

I recently came back from an international flight that transferred through YYZ to YVR.
I forgot that Canada forces transferring international to domestic passengers to pick up their luggage from baggage claim, put it back on the conveyor belt and then proceed upstairs for security screening. Given that this was a time when there were a lot of domestic flights, my connection time was pretty tight. For some reason, passengers connecting from International onto US flights don't have to go to the baggage claim, and their bags are checked through to their final destination. This is somewhat odd, since I expect that US custom officials in pre-clearance would want to have the opportunity to inspect bags directly. Does anyone know why there's this discrepancy between domestic connections and US connections? |

The wikipedia page for Tristan da Cunha says it's 2000 km from the nearest inhabited island, while Easter Island is 2075 km from the nearest inhabited island. Wouldn't that make Easter Island more remote?

Perhaps, but Tristan has no airstrip. Ship access only.

Province announces $6M injection to expand Red Deer Airport
By Melissa Ramsay Online Reporter Global News CALGARY – The provincial government announced plans to help Red Deer expand its airport on Tuesday, saying it will help diversify the economy and create long-term economic growth. Alberta will contribute $2 million per year for three years in infrastructure funding. “This expansion was identified by the City as an important economic development priority and we are pleased to work with them to provide funding to get it built,” said Municipal Affairs Minister Deron Bilous in a news release. “The airport expansion will create good jobs, attract new business opportunities and help make our province more economically diverse.” The city of Red Deer and Red Deer County are each contributing $1.75 million to the project, which will be mainly spent on lengthening the airport’s north-south runway. The runway extension will accommodate larger aircraft and allow for expanded passenger and commercial services. ... http://globalnews.ca/news/2274030/pr...-deer-airport/ |

It seems to be specific to each airport though, I believe in YYC (though someone else correct me if I'm wrong, and AC's website seems to back my memory up) that even passengers connecting onto US flights have to collect their checked bags first. But yes, YYZ and YVR both are listed as not needing to collect your bags for international to US connections. |
