Haven't been to YEG in a while, that's the first I've seen of the Renaissance other than renderings... looks great.

Does anybody else hate the rip off concession prices at YYZ? I mean $12 bucks plus tip for a glass of shitty Niagara Gretzky-sweat 99 Riesling. 12 buckeroos for good french wine is a bad enough, but for shitty Canadian wino wine?

Air Canada's YYZ hub strategy is paying dividends in growth... Will be interesting to see the full year picture in January.

All three of AC's largest hubs are showing good signs of growth. Considering our economy isnt doing so good and that Canada will more than likely enter a recession this year, that is pretty impressive. Even YYC has a positive overall growth so far, which is impressive.

There is something wrong with YQB. We were already over 1,575,000 in 2014.

transborder numbers out of YQB are pretty bad. - 9.5% so far this year.

Technically, the tally at YQB should be -1.1% with General Aviation included.

Dunno about wine but the Mill Street brewpub has pretty decent prices. And good beer! Go there.

Every airport is a ripoff. Our 2nd most expensive meal in New Orleans was drinks at the airport… and we did not go to cheap places.

Have you been to London Heathrow? I think you will change your definition of rip off once you see the prices there.

i found the selection in yyz terminal 3 us deartures to be really bad, a basic sandwich was like $12.99

of the 3 places only 1 had a pretty normal basic breakfast, most of them had fancy overpriced food - i just wanted bacon and eggs :(

Lol I experienced that as well! And the restaurant where they bring food to your iPad area costs like $15 bucks for a smoked salmon bagel...

The only reason why I like going to YYZ is the sheer beauty of the terminal 1 check-in hall.

They appear to be moving to most of the places being celebrity chief based. The slice of reheated gourmet pizza looks authentic and similar to what you get in Italy, however it is simply a slice of reheated pizza.

They also miss the mark with all the fancy sit-down places and apple tablet places. If you are in an airport you are probably trying to catch a quick bite to eat before or between flights. Vancouver and Calgary get it right with some sit down places but large food courts with a good selection.

at La guardia airport in new york, the terminal i was in - the entire sitting area was ipads and high table seating, no where to get comfortable at all, so most people were just standing or sitting against a wall if they could find space while most of the tables remained sparsely used

I hate tall bar stool sitting, which airport restaurants seem to be very fond of. Very uncomfortable.
I just passed through four airports (London [Ont], Toronto, Rome, and Bari). I need to verify the shopping mall crisis reported in Bari a couple of years ago. Dunno about the malls, but the old city is jammed packed with people tonight.

Rome airport sucks. It was about 35C in the concourse. I had a nasty 5 hour layaway.

yeah. Vancouver for sure. Great food options. Can't speak for Calgary, as I am much less familiar with that airport (not a spot for connecting flights like Vancouver is). And nowadays, almost everyone has a tablet or smart phone, making the tablet places redundant.

The YYZ International departures area at the end of Pier F is really nice. When I've used it, there was plenty of seating available and it was far more plush than normal for a waiting area. There were places with iPads wired up, yes, but you weren't obligated not to sit there. I'm lucky in that I'm normally travelling for work and get free lounge access with them, so that covers the food and beverage situation for me. I do know that the prices are pretty outrageous otherwise, though.

YYC has a main bank of fast food outlets prior to security in the central area on the upper level. Most of the typical A&W, Pizza and subway type deals. There is a Montana's and a couple other sit down type restaurants prior to security also throughout the central concourse behind check-in.

Post security for the AC concourse there is a Chilli's sit down restaurant which does a good breakfast (there is also one on the WJ concourse). There is also a Tim's and Starbucks plus a few shops. The WJ concourse also has it's own food court with typical fast food style selections (subway, mancho wok, A&W, etc.). Depending on what gates are being used for US flights, I think there is also a Great Canadian Bagel on the central concourse that does International/US flights but which side it serves depends on that day - I think it's typically on the US side if memory serves.

The US Area (as it exists currently) is drastically under served. There is a Burger King and a Tim's and that's about it other than a convenience store for those last minute snack options. I suspect the new International Terminal (which will double YYC's footprint) will have a lot more options.

I got to do a bus tour of the tarmac with a work group and the YYC planning staff were telling us that the YYC International Terminal will use a fixed gate system. This means you won't be let down to your gate until the gate is assigned about 45 minutes before your flight - so you will congregate in a central hold room (which will have lots of shops, restaurants, etc) and then announcements will be made that your flight is assigned to a gate and you will then be able to proceed to the gate. This will all be post security check of course.
