If WS could add a daily connecting flight from YQB to YHZ in summer for connections to Europe, that would be very helpful. I've booked CDG-YQB on westjet but I'll have to pass by Halifax and Toronto. Not very convenient to go west and then go back east.

At least their price for that flight was very attractive. So attractive that it made me decide to book a 18h flight instead of TS direct flight.

I’m doing YQB-CDG direct in April. Did not look at the price since I’ll be travelling with my 6 months old baby 🍼. Connections suck lol

WS adding 4x weekly summer seasonal YYC-YYG from June 25.

That's quite the coup for Charlottetown right after the Swoop announcement for YHM. Transcons out of YYG, wow!

YYG should easily break the 400k pax mark in 2020.

Swoop airlines is charging a new $2.56 fee on every flight to offset the cost of new federal regulations intended to protect air passengers.

In a statement, the airline said the Passenger Protection Regulation (APPR) Surcharge was introduced to maintain Swoop’s ability to provide “unbundled, ultra-low fares.”

The airline says the fee was introduced on Jan. 9...

Good on Swoop for actually doing this. Only a fool would think the new passenger bill of rights would not have a negative effect of fares, I'm glad they are being up front about it. Other airlines will just bury it in their fares in the form of fare increases, albeit it small ones.

I actually think this is the best route and Swoop's idea is bad. The new regulations are part of the cost of doing business, and the cost of doing business should be reflected in a business' core prices, not put into separate fees. I'm reminded of those Calgary restaurants that tried charging a "business support fee" on bills after the AB government raised minimum wage. Just raise your menu prices for frick's sake.

I think it's a dumb move by Swoop. There will be costs associated with complying with the new laws, but the same is true with complying with existing laws. It's disingenious to highlight this one new cost while obscuring all others. But, using the same logic, will Swoop add an incremental fee when their suppliers inevitably increase costs, or when labour costs increase due to new hiring, or executive compensation goes up?

22:50 Glasgow (6x)
22:55 Paris (daily)

It seems like they're developing Halifax into more of a hub for transatlantic flights. Consider that they also offer service to YHZ from YVR, YYC, YEG, YWG along with the more typical Eastern Canada + Florida routes. YQB-YHZ does seem like a natural route but I can't remember there ever being one.

It used to be operated by Porter a while ago. Did not last long if I’m not mistaken. YQB is very Air Canada / Aeroplan oriented.

Fairly certain PD never operated YQB-YHZ.

That press release is from 12 years ago. I worked the traffic in/out of YQB back during that time. Never remember seeing PD to YHZ. Im usually good at remembering old routes. I remember when DL feeder flew BOS-YQB.

As you said, must not have operated that long, if at all...

Some crazy Swoop deals on right now... many $43-100/one-way across Canada or to Mex/Cali/Flo.

Around 25 years ago.....Air Nova was doing YQB-YQM-YHZ on a Dash 8-100

:previous:

I'm surprised there isn't a YQB/YQM route now. It would seem a natural, what with the cultural ties between Acadia and Quebec, the universities (Laval & UdeM), and the satellite medical school in Moncton affiliated with the University de Sherbrooke.

It probably didn't work long because there wasn't any connection possible on both sides with Porter.

As for DL, they should bring back YQB-BOS in summer. Also, YQB-ATL might be a good route for DL since there's a lot of quebecers going to various cities in Florida in winter.

I used to love Porter but now I just don't get what their strategy is.

Canada will be adding messaging at YUL, YYZ and YVR aimed at passengers from China to report symptoms of illness to combat the mysterious coronavirus centred in Wuhan. The last thing Canada needs is another lethal disease from China like SARS, it will devastate our tourism and travel sector.

Anything short of temperature screening is useless (even temp screening has its flaws). A passenger from Wuhan most likely doesn’t speak English. So those messages at YVR, YYZ and YUL will go unnoticed, as will the additional health question on the customs form.

The best line of defense is and will always be the customs agent. That first question they ask ( where r u coming from?) will be very important in a case like this. They might need to brush up on their Mandarin though....;)

I believe the message are also in Mandarin, but I agree. The USA is being much more pro-active. And now we hear it's worse than they first reported (surprise, surprise) and it is spreading person-to-person.

Canada was one of the countries worst hit by SARS and yet it's like our government learned nothing. :koko:
