Jeppesen Aviation has given our airport YCG a proposal to improve landings in poor weather and try to get rid of our "Cancelgar" moniker. Jeppesen is owned by Boeing right?

Bigtime Aug 18, 2016 8:57 PM

Noooooo! You can't change, Cancelgar for life.

I was in Iqaluit for the summer months of '09. When one exits the terminal and looks at the city, and I say this with regret, Iqaluit strongly resembles a sanitary landfill with houses atop of it. :(

Our northern cities definitely have a rougher sheen. Whitehorse is probably the nicest of the lot. Having spent a fair bit of time in Nuuk, Greenland, I'm extremely jealous of what they have there.

A few pictures (via Facebook) today of the Snowbirds with suburban St. John's in the background.

EDIT: Scratch that. The above angle left me so confused. It's facing inland, toward Windsor Lake and the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip's. Torbay is barely in it.

The Town of Conception Bay South.

These are the angles, and approximate location :haha:

Yah Iqaluit is not the nicest view, but there are few tourist. Plus they are starting to clean things up albeit slowly. I agree Whitehorse is nicer. And Yellowknife is fine if you drive in past the Leg building. Must have something to do with Trees.

So what exactly is the benefit of new code share agreements? It seems the number of flights hasn't changed, so what is the result of this? Is it more convenience for Canadians wanting to travel to Brazil, and vice versa?

When you have a connection and both flights are on the same ticket as a passanger it means your protected by the airline if their is a flight delay it also means baggage can be transferred.

For flights to be issued on the same ticket the two airlines either have to interline or codeshare with each other. In the background their computer systems have to talk to each other and they have to develop procedure to transfer bags etc.

The LATAM - WestJet conshare means LATAM can sell a ticket that includes the WestJet flight connecting to their flight.

NewLeaf adds new destination from Hamilton

Hamilton Spectator
http://www.thespec.com/news-story/68...from-hamilton/

NewLeaf Travel Company is expanding its service out of Hamilton airport for the month of October.

Starting Oct. 3 the company will offer ultra-low cost flights between Hamilton and Abbotsford, B.C. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There will be one flight each way, each day, until Oct. 31.

Under NewLeaf's ultra-low cost model, the fare a passenger buys pays only for a seat on the aircraft. Everything after that, from checked baggage to food and entertainment, is an extra charge.

Service is also offered between Hamilton and Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg and Kelowna.

It offered initial fares as low as $79 on some routes and aims to be as much as 30 per cent below its competitors.

esquire Aug 31, 2016 2:30 PM

^ That's interesting, NewLeaf is basically jumping into the uber-competitive Toronto-Vancouver market using secondary airports in both areas.

LeftCoaster Aug 31, 2016 6:31 PM

Anyone know what this is all about?

Quote:

British Airways in October 2016 is ending codeshare partnership with WestJet, with last codeshare flight scheduled on 15OCT16. British Airways’ BA code is currently placed on 16 domestic Canada service by the latter, including the following:

British Airways operated by WestJet
Calgary – Edmonton
Calgary – Kelowna
Calgary – Regina
Calgary – Saskatoon
Calgary – Victoria
Calgary – Winnipeg
Toronto – Edmonton
Toronto – Halifax
Toronto – Kelowna
Toronto – Ottawa
Toronto – Quebec City
Toronto – Regina
Toronto – Saskatoon
Toronto – Winnipeg
Vancouver – Edmonton
Vancouver – Kelowna
http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/...-mid-oct-2016/

This is somewhat worrying for YYC, as obviously their Westjet hub helps feed the BA flight from the entire prairie region. I'm sure the O&D still has decent traffic, but this can't be a good thing.

Coldrsx Aug 31, 2016 6:34 PM

Fallout from competing with BA to England?

I bet that is a big piece of it. But that would mean BA still loses all of the WestJet feeder/distributor service across the country and that will undoubtedly hurt its O&D traffic loads.

BA's Canadian destinations page will certainly look different:

I wish WestJet would just hurry up and join OneWorld.

LeftCoaster Aug 31, 2016 7:46 PM

Seems logical re: the competition angle. Will be interesting to see how it affects YYC. YYZ has so much O&D it will weather the storm, and YVR only loses two feeder flights, but YYC is very exposed, at a tough economic time. Wouldn't be shocked to see the flight go back to a 788 or 763.

As for WestJet joining an alliance, I thought they were fundamentally opposed to doing that, as they find it more profitable to push their multi-alliance interline/codeshare agreements.

Well, maybe if OneWorld carriers back out of codeshares they can push Alaska/Virgin and WestJet into alliances.

This must be the strongest growth I've ever seen at YVR, 11% overall:
