Jeppesen Aviation has given our airport YCG a proposal to improve landings in poor weather and try to get rid of our "Cancelgar" moniker. Jeppesen is owned by Boeing right?
|
Noooooo! You can't change, Cancelgar for life.

Our northern cities definitely have a rougher sheen. Whitehorse is probably the nicest of the lot. Having spent a fair bit of time in Nuuk, Greenland, I'm extremely jealous of what they have there.

A few pictures (via Facebook) today of the Snowbirds with suburban St. John's in the background.
YYT and portions of St. John's and the Town of Torbay. http://i.imgur.com/0eLyvlC.jpg EDIT: Scratch that. The above angle left me so confused. It's facing inland, toward Windsor Lake and the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip's. Torbay is barely in it. The Town of Conception Bay South. http://i.imgur.com/Tjaf7sw.jpg?1 These are the angles, and approximate location :haha: http://i66.tinypic.com/3445yk5.png |

WestJet-LATAM codeshare | AA adjusts YYC & YYZ | Brussels-Air Canada codeshare
Quote:
Also, with regards to American's service from DFW to YYC, it looks like they're down-gauging from mainline service to regional service beginning in October. Quote:
On the upside, American is temporarily up-gauging its LAX-YYZ service to A321 equipment. Quote:
Lastly, Air Canada and Brussels Airlines are expanding their domestic (Canadian) codeshare relationship. Quote:

So what exactly is the benefit of new code share agreements? It seems the number of flights hasn't changed, so what is the result of this? Is it more convenience for Canadians wanting to travel to Brazil, and vice versa? |
Quote:
For flights to be issued on the same ticket the two airlines either have to interline or codeshare with each other. In the background their computer systems have to talk to each other and they have to develop procedure to transfer bags etc. The LATAM - WestJet conshare means LATAM can sell a ticket that includes the WestJet flight connecting to their flight. |
NewLeaf adds new destination from Hamilton
Hamilton Spectator http://www.thespec.com/news-story/68...from-hamilton/ NewLeaf Travel Company is expanding its service out of Hamilton airport for the month of October. Starting Oct. 3 the company will offer ultra-low cost flights between Hamilton and Abbotsford, B.C. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There will be one flight each way, each day, until Oct. 31. Under NewLeaf's ultra-low cost model, the fare a passenger buys pays only for a seat on the aircraft. Everything after that, from checked baggage to food and entertainment, is an extra charge. Service is also offered between Hamilton and Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg and Kelowna. It offered initial fares as low as $79 on some routes and aims to be as much as 30 per cent below its competitors. |
^ That's interesting, NewLeaf is basically jumping into the uber-competitive Toronto-Vancouver market using secondary airports in both areas.
|
Anyone know what this is all about?

This is somewhat worrying for YYC, as obviously their Westjet hub helps feed the BA flight from the entire prairie region. I'm sure the O&D still has decent traffic, but this can't be a good thing. |
Fallout from competing with BA to England?

BA's Canadian destinations page will certainly look different: http://i.imgur.com/8ImXLAg.png I wish WestJet would just hurry up and join OneWorld. |
Seems logical re: the competition angle. Will be interesting to see how it affects YYC. YYZ has so much O&D it will weather the storm, and YVR only loses two feeder flights, but YYC is very exposed, at a tough economic time. Wouldn't be shocked to see the flight go back to a 788 or 763.
As for WestJet joining an alliance, I thought they were fundamentally opposed to doing that, as they find it more profitable to push their multi-alliance interline/codeshare agreements. |

This must be the strongest growth I've ever seen at YVR, 11% overall:

^^^ That's incredible growth for YVR wow!!
