That's actually the 4th ward, or the west side of Midtown.

The Gables looks gorgeous. Seems like it will be taller than the neighboring BBVA Compass tower. Can't wait to see it go up!!

That 11 story apartment building should be great. It'll be close to Downtown plus it'll have ground floor retail.

With these two, now we're potentially up to 117 high rises proposed, under construction, or on hold in Houston. Let's see when they go public.

If one proposes, someone opposes.

First thing that made me go, "What?" was the idea that any group would oppose more construction along Post Oak. The second thing was this yet unannounced 50-story AmREIT project which was just casually slipped into the article. The third thing was this group's claimed consent to the BHP development (still waiting to see what they think of Apache's proposed HQ). Something tells me they're nervous about new residents and more traffic on their boulevard. Again, if they hate it so much, they can vote for zoning.

New PAC opposes high-rise on Post Oak Boulevard

You didn't go "what?" to the thought that the guy lives in the most traffic congested surface street in probably all of TX and probably the SW (Post Oak) and he's complaining about traffic while opposing BRT improvements.

Can't believe idiots like that guy even get attention from the press.

Marc Boom, Houston Methodist president and CEO, said in a statement that the hospital system plans to invest more than $1 billion in expanding and replacing its facilities in the Houston area over the next three years.

Separately, the new patient tower at the Texas Medical Center, which will cost about $540 million to build, will replace patient beds in Houston Methodist Hospital’s original Main building and add advanced heart and neurosurgery operating rooms. It is also expected to be completed in 2017.

The inpatient tower next to Houston Methodist Hospital will accommodate 390 beds — including 102 intensive care beds — expanded operating suites, hybrid suites and a dedicated cardiology floor with 14 interventional catheterization labs. The new tower will include high-tech operating rooms that will expand the hospital’s ability to provide image guided heart and brain procedures.

I had heard St. Luke's was going to shrink to grow. New building, fewer beds. Not sure what will happen with the existing property.

FWIW, "Landmark Tower" was part of the caption - not the name of the tower. It works though. That was the one that I was hoping would break ground before any other residential project at the site. Hanover Post Oak isn't turning out half bad though.

Mid Main mixed-use development to break ground soon

The office portion of Mid Main, a mixed-use development in Midtown, is slated to break ground as soon as preleasing is complete, Transwestern said June 2.

Houston-based Transwestern is in charge of finding office tenant(s) for the eight-story, 203,316-square-foot, Class A office building at 3501 Main St., which is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2016.

The office building’s 545-space parking garage will include 9,716 square feet of high-end retail space on the first floor. Houston-based Lewis Property Co. is leasing the retail space.

Houston-based RHS Interests Inc. is developing the mixed-use project, which will also include 363 multifamily units and a 773-space parking garage.

I forgot all 7 of the Uptown Park towers, as of today that makes 126 highrises in Houston city under construction/proposed/on hold (in Ashby's case).

I thought the Ashby Highrise started construction a few weeks ago right after the ruling???

I think they ruled that construction can proceed but I don't think they have restarted yet. They probably will release a date for their expected restart or has it already started?

Work of some sort was captured in images posted on HAIF either the same day the judges ruling was released, or the next day, if I'm not mistaken..

Not sure, but I signed-up to learn if it's an actual proposal or not.

Here's something that may be an actual proposal, the West Houston Master Plan. The site was on the Planning Commission agenda and the applicant's request was approved. One homeowner spoke - opposed to this agenda item. He said the project has grown in size over the years and suggest that the project will "tower over" the surrounding neighborhood.

After the ruling, there was already dirt moved and excavators onsite, plus other construction equipment.

I don't see a whole lot of "towering".:koko: It looks like the taller buildings actually fit the site nicely without dominating it, so it can't really "tower" over the neighboring properties. Maybe Mister Tort Reform Hypocrite has been agitating in other neighborhoods besides his own.:hell:

BisNow had a nice photograph of a crew of official-looking business types sticking shovels in the ground out by Katy. I'm not sure if this was previously reported, but another 6-story building out west:

"Freeway Properties broke ground on Katy Ranch Offices Phase 1, the first mid-rise office property built west of the Grand Parkway in Katy. Above, LSI’s Robert O’Connell and Glen Taylor, TAS Engineering’s Eddie Sanders, LSI’s Jason Snell and Kerry LaGrone, Freeway’s Mike Baker, Moody Rambin’s Griff Jaggard and Kurt Kistler, Katy EDC’s Lance LaCour, and Moody Rambin’s Bob Cromwell celebrate the groundbreaking. Katy Ranch Offices Phase 1 is a six-story, 151k SF facility just off the eastbound exit ramp in Katy Ranch. It will deliver in Q1 ’15 and is applying for LEED Gold. Griff and Kurt are leasing the property, Powers Brown is the architect, LSI is GC, and TAS is handling MEP."

Somewhere (the Chron?) I saw a quote that 22,000 apartments were under construction in the Houston MSA. That's a much faster pace than the predicted 12,000-a-year over five years.

Houston 'burb outpaces most of inner-Loop for proposed apartment construction

The site for the proposed Chinatown hotel is located within a 15-acre mixed-used KP Plaza development at the southeast quadrant of Beechnut Street and Beltway 8. Other probable uses within the development include restaurants, retail and residential. The hotel is located one exit from the heart of the Chinatown District and is also near the Westchase District, and international District. The picture below shows the current rendering of the development.

The project includes an upscale hotel about 250 rooms, and 120 high-rise residential units, and 35,000 square feet of retail space with a pad site for a premier restaurant. CRED group acquired the land since early 21st century, and the land, which is made up by two parcels, has a total aggregated size of 13.8 acres. A detention pond serves the site has been built and licensed by City of Houston.
