How ironic, the airline that owes its existence to the monopoly position originally granted it on a piece of federal property (YTZ) has not only passed up the homegrown plane in favour of Embraer but now has inked a 20 year old deal to maintain them in the USA. All after getting $270 in guaranteed loans courtesy of the Cdn taxpayer. The sooner PD goes under the better.

Porter Airlines’ new fleet of Embraer jets will be serviced and repaired by the plane maker in the United States, the Brazilian manufacturer says.
Toronto-based Porter has signed a 20-year contract with Embraer to maintain its new planes at Embraer’s facilities in Nashville and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., an agreement that covers the airframe’s maintenance and access to the manufacturers’ pool of components and repair services, Embraer said on Thursday...

It's not like what they did is illegal. Sure it would have been nice for them to order the CSeries and maintain them here in Canada, but at the end of the day, it was a business decision, not a political one. Their CSeries LOI was conditional on getting approval for jet ops at YTZ. That will never happen. So they chose a better - read cheaper - deal for themselves. Plus more favorable delivery slots for the Ejets vs the CSeries. The maintenance for the Ejets in the States is also a cheaper option. Tennessee and Florida are States with right-to-work laws, meaning no unions, meaning cheaper labor.
Why do you think Boeing and Airbus opened final assembly lines (FAL) in Charleston, North Carolina and Mobile, Alabama, 2 other States with right-to-work laws. Airbus even has a FAL in China. All in search of cheaper labor compared to Seattle, Toulouse, Hamburg, etc.
