Subject to change i guess. I highly doubt you’ll be seeing 5x daily service to China from the 3 hubs in May.

People cancelling their trips to Italy it seems.

This will surely affect AC, TS and WS's FCO, VCE and MXP ops in the coming months. Some reductions will most likely be made there as well.

Not going to be a good year for Aviation in general. Hearing that seats in and to China are down by 164 million since the outbreak started.

China travel declining for 2020 was a given. Now it's spreading to Europe. That's not good at all, and the impact for Canadian carriers (and therefore jobs) could be far greater.

I see a major recession in 2020/2021 that will impact Airport travel like in 2008/2009

Late announcement, so to speak (ex. Condor announced YEG back in early December)

Even though the planning on new routes like these takes months, seems to me like a reaction to COVID. Star alliance switching their focus on TATL instead of Asia. This will put more pressure on WS and their European ops from YYC.

If Italy doesn't contain the disease and it spreads across Europe, the shift to TATL by all these carriers will be a useless attempt at salvaging whatever profit is left in 2020.

This has been rumoured for a while now. It's certainly a late announcement for a long haul, but we will take it as the jury is still out if HU is coming back (not likely).

YYC-Europe will be quite interesting to watch this year as its getting pretty crowded with AC / WS / BA / KL / DE / WK and now LH/EW. FRA up to 14x weekly.

Lufthansa And Eurowings Set To Resume Frankfurt-Calgary Flights
Lufthansa is set to return to Calgary from Frankfurt. The flight will be operated in cooperation with Eurowings and will operate on a seasonal basis from the start of June onwards.

The aircraft will then remain on the ground for 1-hour and 20-minutes.
LH5453 will depart from Calgary for its return flight at 13:45. Following the return flight, the Airbus A330-200 will touch back down in Frankfurt at 07:20 the next morning.

Total seats in/out of China for February to June 2020 is down 162 million compared to the same period last year.

February 2020 vs January 2020, seats in China are down 55 million, or -57%.

More specifically to us, China-North America for Feb-June 2020 is down 2.5 million seats (-40%) compared to the same period last year. 2.05 million is to the US alone.

There is speculation that this will become a fairly broad based reduction in global air travel this year. All regions is expected to be significantly impacted - with Asia affected the most, then Europe and then by default North America.

The Global Business Travel Association said the virus could cost the travel industry over 500 Billion USD in revenue, as trips to Europe, Asia and elsewhere are called off because of the virus.

Fear plays a big factor. The cruise industry is being hammered too.

It seems YYZ-NRT is gone. It used to run seasonally along with YYZ-HND.

Great to see increasing interest by airlines long haul from YYC to Europe.
