Concord, MA -- charming and historic

So my girlfriend lives right by here but somehow I had never been until just recently, and hoo boy is this an incredibly cute (and exclusive) town with a great street grid, old homes dripping with character, and more history than you can shake a stick at.

This is, after all, where the "shot heard 'round the world" happened with the Minute Men put up the first fight against the Brits, and of course much great writing came from here by way of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, etc etc. I'm not going to bore you with all of it, but suffice to say that a lot's happened here and if you need a crash course then here's the wiki

Back in the present day, the things that have struck me most about it are how it has a decent-sized rectilinear street grid (most towns/suburbs around here never evolved this way) and how well laid out everything is for walking around and actually residing there. I love my 5+ years I've lived in NYC, but I could see how walking around here wouldn't get boring after two weeks, and that's something I can't say about a lot of places.

It doesn't look like a big street grid, but it's complete enough that in person it feels more expansive than it should.

Otherwise, there's great tree coverage and the houses nearly without exception are great pieces of architecture. Yeah there's the outer area with 1950s ranches and 1990s McMansions but we're not gonna concern ourselves with that here ;)

Nice pictures!

Concord is one place in Massachusetts that I really want to visit. That, and Lexington. Those two towns seem to ooze history more than your typical towns of the same age.

I was lucky when I was young I had a coach who would take us to Concord and let us ride and train on our Bikes there. Folks would cheer us on and were very supportive. It was a fun time...

I, too, extend a hearty conglaturation to the class of 2020!

When I visited Concord and Lexington I rented a bike and did the classic trail between the two, so relaxing and engaging!
