Back at the offices Smith+Gill on Saturday. Any spire hopes were dashed when I was told that it is still off the table..

Nice look at the model. I don't know that we've ever seen it.

The model also shows a wider base up to the first setback than the engineering schematic (which is awesome) and the actual construction photos show.

That's only because that "wing" of the tower isn't easily visible from 57th Street at this point (its more of an L shape up to 500 ft or so).

You can make it out in that diagram above and also in this photo posted...

If the spire is off the table, that must be an old model then, so it must be short by anywhere from 20' to 91' feet (first "spire version" was 1478' and last was 1530' and current "non-spire" version is either 1550' or 1569')

I thing the parapet will go to the 1574ft in the height if we add the spire it s reach ~1800ft

^^It's a current model. The architects are just proud of their original design.

If they love the original design with the spire, they must build it.
It is my hope that they will do it without saying a word as a surprise. :P

About how much additional costs would that be? Barnett is trying to cover all bases just getting the tower itself financed and built. Maybe when the smoke clears he'll have second thoughts about it? Sometimes I think it needs the spire, other times not. I think with One Vanderbilt about to rise (groundbreaking today) it should have a spire. The model reinforces my opinion that it will look a lot like his Trump Tower Chicago.

According to the official source, Central Park Tower will be 131 stories tall.

According to the real world, it appears that it will be 108 actual stories.

NYguy Oct 20, 2016 12:13 AM

Don't know what the fuss is about. None of these towers going up - office or residential - have actual floor counts that match stated or advertised floor counts. To be particularly accurate on the number of floors in a building, check the DOB filings.

Anyway, traditionally, this could have been called a 150-story building due to its height. That's still the perception in the media (500 ft = 50 stories, etc.).
