It looks like a great view of the city. It is hard to imagine why there hasn't been a concerted effort to open this historic site to residents and tourists.

Nice photos. That last one looks quite built up and shows off some of the newer buildings and cranes.

I found this photo on flickr, also taken from George's Island. The close up of the NSP building shows off some of the detail on the cladding. I like how they broke up the glass wall with some accent panels in a lighter colour:

I guess the library and the Clyde Street buildings will eventually be visible in this shot. I wonder if and when there will be another highrise built in this area? There's the Cunard proposal that is supposed to get underway in 2013 but that's too far to the right.

If I had my way (and $100 million - if I did, I'd probably do it), I'd hope to see all the remaining lots around the Trillium bought up and consolidated into one massive parcel (including the old White office tower). I'd then demo everything (although there are a couple old houses I'd try to have moved) and then have the HbD bonus map amended to allow up to 25 stories and build a mixed use condo building on the corner of Spring Garden and South Park. On the rest of the land, I'd build a boutique suite hotel on the corner of Spring Garden and Brenton; with the two buildings having a shared parking access. Then to try to calm down to Schmidtville residents, I'd dedicate a small piece of the corner of Breton and Breton to be a pocket park with a fountain and sitting area. Of course, that's my dream world - but I'd love to see 2 towers go in there. Shame the height was wasted.

One of the weaknesses with HbD I think and the overall planning regime in Halifax is that there's basically no room for landmark highrise buildings. Because of the ramparts bylaw all taller buildings in Halifax are effectively capped around the same height -- I don't think that's a good trade-off at all. I'd love to see a 30 or 40 storey condo in the Spring Garden Road area.

I hope they go up to 40 or so around Young Street.

The ramparts policy only applies to Downtown; so Young would be okay to exceed it. I'd personally like to see the ramparts policy waived for the two blocks around Trillium, which under the old system were outside of the viewplanes and could go higher through a DA.

I'm not going to cry if it doesn't happen; but at least there is the chance that the Young Street area and maybe even Kempt road could be the 'signature' highrise area.

I've been editing some Halifax photos and I noticed this one is mostly new buildings. That wasn't planned -- there's just a lot of new construction in some parts of Halifax.
