This is confusing. There's another project here on this same block that is also taking over the Lexus dealership.

Edit: The site is that 6 story office building. Which houses offices for the lexus dealership, but not the actual parking lot dealership. https://nyoobserver.files.wordpress....ng?w=450&h=336 The six story office building being right on the corner, shaded in a darker color. |
It looks like that corner building is a different development. 606 W 57th has already been designed by Arquitectonica too, and SLCE is the filing architect.
Álvaro Siza is apparently designing something for 823-825 11th Avenue, aka 601-605 W 56th Street. That site is occupied by a six-story structure located on the southern corner of the block. That current structure can be seen here (in pink): http://d3exkutavo4sli.cloudfront.net...eet-demo-1.jpg +++++ What can be expected: http://www.nydailynews.com/life-styl...icle-1.2120418 Quote:

Yes, there are two developments on this block.
The 400 ft. condo tower (this thread) is the site that fronts 11th Ave. The huge 500 ft. rental tower is the site that fronts 57th Street. Two separate and unrelated towers. |

I'm just noticing now that the rendering above has this project located at 56th and 8th. I know architects get city backdrop locations wrong all the time (particularly with respect to reflections on glass), but this is a pretty egregious example.

Mods,
Can we move this one to u/c. Thanks |

I wouldn't be surprised if everything from Mercedes House north and west became more associated with Waterline Square, the Riverside Boulevard condos, and Lincoln Square. Perhaps a new neighborhood name could derive from these names floating around.
While we're at it, let's anchor this burgeoning area with a replacement tunnel for the remaining viaduct of the West Side Highway, and accompanied park space. And also, a new or relocated cultural institution inside the old IRT powerhouse à la Tate Modern in London. Do we have a museum of science and industry? A gal can dream. |
this building is going to look great. And I know that the beast next door has some people groaning but I actually quite like it. Lots of amazing architecture over here now.
And I like your idea regarding the IRT NYC2ATX. With exception of the modern tumor attached to the west side of the building, that thing is gorgeous and just begging to become some type of museum. And yes, for heavens sake let's bury the West Side Highway (and the FDR for that matter), and in the process protect all of Manhattan from rising sea levels. |
