Not having LA on there is, IMO, completely unacceptable; which is why suburban nimbyists out here must rewire they're brains.

Are all of these buildings approved to be constructed? Or are they just proposed?

If they are just proposed, then there are a few more buildings that would make that list.

But the North American top ten is nothing compared to what the Asian top ten will be, or even Dubai. :(

By the time all these are built, how many US buildings will be in the world's top ten?

Surely the Spire, and most likely the Freedom Tower

It would be if there was actually a need for a building that size in LA. That isn't the case.

The Empire State Building should be on the list at 1453 feet 8 9/16th inches and 102 floors it should be number 5

^ It may only be counting height of the top floor; if so, Waldorf Astoria barely beats the Empire State Building by only 15 ft.

the empire state building should be on that list. the TC is counting the height all the way to the antenna( ex: trump tower is actually 1170 feet but 1362 to the antenna). the generally accepted rule for measuring skyscrapers is counting to the top occupied floor

don't get all razzled up over dubai! the city is a charade, a fad. you plop however many super tallbuildings you want there, but the fact is, it lacks the diversity, culture, cosmopolitan flair, and history that mark true cities such as philly, nyc, chicago, boston, etc. even LA has a more urban fabric than dubai. not to mention it's in a country/region where, all glitter and hoopla aside, is still a repressive area with a poor human rights record and a very very conservative attitude towards tolerance, women, etc. why do you think that when the economy soured, everyone started to leave? money cannot buy everything - and that includes all those things that make a real city feel like a great place to live, work, and play.

dubai is like crystal bridges (art museum funded by wal-mart heiress) trying to fit in with the Louvre, PMA or Met...it's a joke.
