TOKYO | Aeropolis 2001 | 6,565 FT / 2,001 M | 500 FLOORS | VISION

From Wikipedia:

The Aeropolis 2001 is a proposed project for construction of a massive 500-story high-rise building over Tokyo Bay in Japan. It is proposed to be a 2,000 metres (6,562 ft) high building. If built, the mammoth structure would be approximately five times as high as the former World Trade Center was in New York.

Envisioned by Obayashi Gumi Corporation, it is with 500 floors that would accommodate over 300,000 inhabitants. The structure is expected to be mixed-use, including restaurants, offices, flats, cinemas, schools, hospitals, and post offices. Elevators are expected to travel from top to bottom in 15 minutes. The tower is proposed to be fully sustainable and air conditioned.

I've seen this one before.

Ugh.!!..No! :yuck:

yea i heard about this......it was designed to deal with the population problems. this will never happen though, and thankfully because this would require so much energy and maintanince and money, i mean it would be like a mini city in there. not to mention people wouldnt want to live all the way at the top and it would take forever to have everyone move in to this thing. but its always cool to wonder about it lol

If I remember correctly, it was the collapse of the Japanese Real Estate Market that killed this one. THANK GOD.....

Stratosphere Apr 21, 2008 11:27 PM

I actually like the design but the height is unrealistic. Shrink it to 600m and I think it would look good.

Agreed, I like it as well but somewhere closer to 1km would be better. 15 minutes to get to your floor... no thanks. 7-8 minutes would probably be my limit, it would be well worth it for the view.

I meant that it killed the idea. But it did say in the paragraph that Stratosphere posted that it was proposed.

Maybe each room comes with its own parachute? Or for the penthouses at the top, escape helicopters?

Like an unassembled scrabble...

MolsonExport Apr 11, 2009 7:46 PM

just a bit taller, and you've got the space elevator

lakegz Apr 11, 2009 10:04 PM

I like how they even included a spire on it as if it wasn't tall enough.

metroXpress Aug 16, 2009 2:50 PM

wow....this is crazy

Ehrgeiz91 Jan 26, 2010 11:03 PM

I do like the geometric design. The height seems a little pointless though...

jd3189 Jan 5, 2012 4:57 AM

Wow.

Jelly Roll Jan 5, 2012 5:09 AM

I like it. I wonder if we will ever build anything this tall.

Sure, just wait for King of Oman or someone to decide they want an even bigger symbolic phallus than the one the Saudi's are building because the Burj Dubai made them feel insecure :haha:
