True, if there was a 1500 ft Gene Kaufman budget hotel knockoff it would be more dreadful.

That being said, due to the prominence in the skyline of 255 W57th, I find its design more offensive than Kafuman's street killing budget hotels.

Thank you SHoP for salvaging 57th St with your design, as mediocre One 57th and DREADFUL 255 W57th seek to ruin it.

Very nice and original design. The only thing better would be if they increased the height enough to surpass 225 W 57th, say, 1450 ft.

^YES! they should do that, it is simple and ART DECO-ish. It is definitely the most beautiful NYC tower in decades. #awesome

Looks like a taller somewhat Tower Verre looking clone. Almost like what the height should of been before it was chopped. Well somewhat...... but what I'm wondering is what do those people will think at One57? I wonder if they feel like they should of waited? Seems that tower is just getting it hard from all these new designs and taller behemoths being planned.

It's not that bad. One57 is going to be finished soon, whereas 111W and 217W still have a long way to go. You can live at least 4 or 5 years in One57 before those other towers open. Even 432 PA will be ready in 2015/16.

There won't be that many units here above One57's height. Maybe about five.

tdawg Oct 3, 2013 1:11 PM

crap, i'm blown away. judging by the model alone this might become king of NY scrapers.

No, the question is how many units 111 W 57th will have above One57's top unit. I'd say that's at least 10.

These will be double floor units (duplexes), with some possibly being three floors. Now that I look closer, there may be no more than 5 at most. I'm not sure what the exact configuration is now, but the older plan called for more duplex units. Including the Steinway Building, there will now be a total of 100 units.

107 West 57th Street will have no more than one apartment per floor, including 13 full-floor units, 14 duplexes, and a four-story penthouse.

one 57 mediocre???? ? Explain please , i think one 57 is a wonderfull mix classic-contemporay tower ,but not mediocre, may be is not a masterpiece but it is good.
Is there other people here that think one 57 is a mediocre building?

NYguy Oct 3, 2013 8:58 PM

^ Leave that to the One57 thread.

I Cant get over of how slim this building will be, it's just astonishing...

I made this one comparing with what, until recently, was thought as the ultimate skinny tower, 432 Park.

According to the scheme that was posted some days ago, the tower will be about 60 x 75 ft (and even less in the upper floors) compared with the 93 ft of each side in 432 Park.

It is an exercise to see how it could work with the neccesary services. I estimate this tower, due to its height, should have at least three passenger elevators, plus one freight (432 has 4+1) to made the core minimum and leave free space for the apartments. I guess that it will have some external columns, similar to those on the old WTC. at least in the east and west facades. It could have two smaller apartments, of about 1700 sq ft or a bigger one of about 3500 sq. ft per floor (or bigger appartments that use two or more floors)

Unlike another nearby building, this one is AWESOME!

That's the difference: Even with the earlier height, they had a good design, but with the increase in height they had a chance to do something unique and epic, and did!

Submariner Oct 4, 2013 3:35 PM

Will this building be getting a diagram?

King DenCity Oct 4, 2013 3:48 PM

^Yeah, Diagram Please!

Great massing, great crown, and most important, quality materials used. This is the kind of skyscraper architecture New York has been missing for some time. This cant be built fast enough.

Im still in disbelief this came from SHoP of all firms. Talk about taking your craft up a notch.

I couldn't agree more. Plus it has the perfect height.

From those models, it actually seems a little wider than I first thought...let's hope they get this trophy built
