This is from: Geoff Diamound http://picasaweb.google.com/geoffdiamond Aon center from navy pier its really amazing you have to see it in person to really get how amazing it is! this pic shows how good it looks in the skyline. |
This really is a beautiful building. I love how it stands out from all the other buildings in our skyline, because of it's color and it's shape. It's amazing how they were able to building something so TALL without ever having to step the floors back from each other.

And, IMO, it looked pretty ugly. |
It looked very ugly back then.
look at chicago without millenium park. |
Similar with Colombian building
Aon has always been a very dominating building in mine mindset. It screams out power, and domination. Im Colombian, and in Bogota, the capital of Colombia we have a building called Colpatria Tower, it resembles Aon in such a great way, though I prefer Colpatria tower since its lighting is MAGNIFICENT.
Colpatria Tower Bogota, Colombia Built in 1978, 196 Meters/50 floors All photos are from skyscraperlife.com http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria8.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria2.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria3.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria5.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria1.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria6.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria7.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria4.jpg Bogota Colombia http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...colpatria9.jpg |
I want to like Aon, but I just can't. I find it an unimaginative and boring waste of resources. But to each his own, I guess.
|
I admire this building highly from an architectual standpoint. It's imposing, powerful, and intimidating, everything a corporate HQ should be for that time. I love the fact that it's right in your face and not buried in the city. It makes itself known and with great fashion, (if you love 70's international styled architecture that is).

:previous: Correct, that is the reason i prefer the building in Colombia then aon. Over in Colombia, they know how to make a rather normal, not boring but something ordinary really fun. Especially with all the colors they add to it, its amazing.
|
Aon would get famous if it did that.

I really like the 2 Prudential building. Aron is okay looking.

Colpatria Tower is nice, but it sure does put out massive light pollution :omg:

Aon Center Construction
Hi,
Someone asked about what type of construction the Aon building has. I believe its very similar to the WTC. I want to say its tubular with a core and supporting outside wall. Outside of the core there are no columns blocking office space. I work in the building and it is open structurally around the entire inside of the building. |

Anyways, Aon is a great building IMO. I really like everything about it even though it doesn't have a great design. It's very elegant. I don't think it's an icon anymore since now the more people talk about the Sears Tower. To me, Hancock is my favorite Chicago building. |
This building is the only tower that looks like world trade center left!:(
|
^^^ There were only three to begin with?

:haha: Da Bears. Superfans in Prudential.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f2...p/DSC_0057.jpg Oh, and I really like Aon. Proabably my favorite box around. |
