You mean this?:

That's the only rendering I've seen. Why don't you think it will look like this? You're right about the timing. I thought it was going to start in winter, but the TJPA site says beginning of fall with operations beginning there in August '09.

Reminiscence Jul 24, 2008 7:54 PM

Yep, thats the one. I didnt think it would look like that because that rendering had been out for a while, and I was aware there was a design phase that should have been completed not too long ago. That rendering looks like it could be built overnight, but I suppose it makes sense if its only temporary.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think TJPA modified their site a little. I was looking over it a little earlier, and it seems like they expect groundbreaking on the temporary terminal during November, about 3 months or so from now.

Also, there was suppose to be a community meeting tonight. Did anyone by chance happen to go?

Lastly, I was just checking out Hong Kong's Union Square project, and they had a picture on there, that for some reason, I found roughly similar to what our skyline might look like with these new supertalls:

Can someone please update the first post so that forumers don't have to go searching for the current design/entries page by page? Thank You. And go San Francisco (cheesy).

Good to hear about the notices. When will the permanent pelli terminal start construction? Hopefully sometime in the next 2 years when I will be in SF!

peanut gallery Aug 1, 2008 12:51 AM

Last I read, the temporary terminal is supposed to start operations in August '09, at which time I'd expect demolition to start on the old terminal. I'm not sure how much actual construction you'll see by mid-2010. They'll probably still be doing a lot of excavation.

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 1:01 AM

I usually consider excavation/ demo to be construction :) I had no idea that this project was so far along. I expected the terminal to start in 2018 or something!

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 1:15 AM

And what about the tower? Anyone know when/if it will start construction?

Reminiscence Aug 1, 2008 5:07 AM

Its difficult to say at this point, at least for me, because not much about exact dates is known. If the entire terminal portion of the project is slated for a 2014 completion date, then I'd say we should start seeing activity by early 2010. Of course this is just an estimate, but something like this should take longer than the two usual years we see for other buildings. Whatever ends up happening, we should start seeing more concrete information as the temporary terminal starts construction.

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 5:36 AM

^Well, as long as the central terminal gets built !

Reminiscence Aug 1, 2008 5:55 AM

I'd say the terminal is bound to get built, along with the complimentary tower attached to it. The only aspect in question right now is just how tall the tower will be. It is still up in the air whether it will be 1000', 1200', or somewhere in between.

Here's that schedule again from my post #1703 on page 86 of this thread.

I don't recall the exact link, but it orginated from a presentation placed either on the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency or Transbay Joint Powers Authority web sites:

Should I be surprised that the tower and terminal will take the same amount of time to construct? Sure, the tower will be huge, but once they get into a pattern of adding floors, it should be rather straightforward. But the terminal just seems like a much more complicated building. And it is a huge project underground as well as above.

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 7:53 PM

According to the timeline the actual transit center building will be complete in summer 2013 and then they have to do "testing and commissioning" until early 2014.

So construction of the TC and tower will span from early 2010 to summer 2013, then comes the testing, etc...

kenratboy Aug 1, 2008 7:59 PM

So is everything still OK with the project? Is it still moving forward, or is it on the back burner?

Really want this thing to work.

BTinSF Aug 1, 2008 8:02 PM

:previous: No glitches anyone knows about. Just the snail's pace of SF development.

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 8:03 PM

^^Well i was wondering just that until yesterday. So far the project is perfectly on track.

peanut gallery Aug 1, 2008 8:03 PM

I think so. They are getting ready to do site prep (prepping for prep) for the temporary terminal, construction of which is the next visible sign of progress.

hi123 Aug 1, 2008 8:15 PM

^ I read somewhere that the groundbreaking would be in november 2008
