Boom ^^^. "The Pacific Century"

Denscity Oct 23, 2015 12:40 AM

Just saw a list in the YVR thread of foreign carriers not including the US or Mexico at the top airports in Canada:

YYZ 30
YVR 22
YUL 15
YYC 4
YHZ 3
YEG 2

Interesting. Does this include future service or is this just current service?

LeftCoaster Oct 23, 2015 12:52 AM

It includes two future carriers at YVR, I think the rest are accurate in so far as wikipedia/airlineroute.net are updated. It came from the Van local so the knowledge base is going to be YVR centric, but it is pretty fair.

Of note, it's only counting inter-continental carriers flying in wide-bodies (the good stuff :)), so operators like Aeromexico, Cubana, Copa etc... were not included.

I believe Copa should be included since North America to South America counts as inter-continental... Fair for Aeromexico and Cubana though.

Which carriers did you add?

I counted 16 but included Copa in the list. So WOW and Icelander are part of the count for YUL, all good.

I think they were all cut since they fly narrow bodies (737s and A320s).

Still cool tails to see at the airport no doubt but the list was made to gauge wide body activity, if you include narrows it just gets crazy (especially at YYZ and YUL) with the Caribbean carriers.

And just to nitpick, Panama City is not in South America!

It's taking the peak summer frequencies, so the busiest time for the airport. Would love to see some for other airports in Canada if anyone has the time and info!

Damn, YVR. That's a lot of 787 Dreamliners!!

Yep, good catch, I must have missed it when I copied the Iceland Air info.

Johnny Aussie has given me a few changes to YVR as well as YYC and YEG info so I'll put together an update and charts for those airports too.

Good luck to anyone who wants to endeavor to do YYZ!

The only '737 model ever equipped with the 'gravel kit' is the B737-200. There will be no other gravel kitted '737s made unless Boeing produces an updated '200 model. :)

The planes are equipped with a high pressure nozzle or pitot tube like device on the base of the engine and the noise wheel is usually equipped with a ski like device.

This may be pedantic, but those things share virtually nothing with the pitot probe. This is active flow control, not flow measurement.

Connecting in terminal 3...yuck.

That's only accurate for intercontinental widebody service and only if including rumors (btw, YEG should be 3 if we are including rumors). However, If you ask me, a foreign carrier is a foreign carrier whether he operates an ATR or a B744, or whether he flies 100 nm or 6000 nm. And we should also stick to confirmed routes with official start dates, to make this more accurate. So, excluding the US and Mexico (what's the beef with Mexico?), as you say....

YYZ is 34 (not including UN, as they stop operating in 2 days, but including confirmed airlines such as WW)
YVR is 20 (confirmed future routes only, rumors not included, or else YEG would be up to 3)
YUL is 19 (including ATR service by french airline PJ to FSP (French overseas collectivity) )
YYC 4
YHZ is also 4, due to PJ to FSP
YEG 2
YYT 1 (again, PJ to FSP)

I know! YVR is really the strong second airport of this country. And there is nothing to say that the growth would only continue... 20M here we come!

Okay, American Airlines...yuck.
