Here is an article from SDUT today on Maker's Corner. It includes a 40 story tower.

Another project in Little Italy. Would be great to get some pics of these construction sites if anyone is inclined.

Oh and has anyone heard the status of those St. Vincent DePaul Towers just north of Laurel on 5th? Those were approved two years ago now and demand is up... seems like those would be breaking ground. |
Drove by 15th and Island today. That hole is huge. They've finally started installing the first steel. Also 13th and Market looked to be almost done. Does anyone know if there are any plans for the empty lot across the street from 15th and Island? There is construction equipment there. Also Lane field was fenced off which is a good sign.

I was just passing thru San Diego last week, first time in there in 3 years, en route to Tijuana for a couple days, and upon my return to the Airport I was already getting thirsty for some color, like some bright orange or vivid cobalt blue! It was nice to see, from what I could see only from the train, San Diego continue its building spree! |

Does anyone else feel that this IDEA DISTRICT/Makers thing is not nearly dense enough. I mean only 2.9 million square feet of development on 5 blocks!!!! Come on, we pretty much have a consensus that towers and such will only be built downtown for decades to come with the exception of National City and Chula Vista Bayfront, and possibly Qualcomm site. We need to take advantage of every parcel downtown. These "Midrise Offices" need to be mixed use with residences on top. We are wasting precious developable sites each time only a 5 to 7 story structure rises downtown!!
There are only about 50 lots left downtown to build towers on so this is a finite resource. Unless the Marine Terminal gets taken out. Each lot that turns in to a midrise is a complete loss to add housing for the youth. Where will all these kids living at home with their parents 16 to 40 live in the future??? Come on IDEA lets get more vertical I'm not saying it needs to look like City Centre in Vegas but maybe halfway between that and what we have proposed here. |
I agree with Mello, the IDEA district is going to be so short, the lots need to be developed far more vertically. It's unfortunate that 16th and G got scaled back as well. Hopefully future projects in the area will be taller.

Just had an interview for an engineering position working on the Mid Coast Trolley extension. Hope I get it!
Both the IDEA district and the new Embarcadero aren't perfect, but they're much better than what we have now |
La Jolla
http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_08601.jpg http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/.../IMG_08621.jpg It's going to be even smaller than I thought..If it was twice as high, it would be alright. But this is just a waste of space. This was prime location, there should have been a landmark, not a small brick covered with glass. |
:previous: My employer is moving into this building, we begin moving in January, with full occupancy by March. We're already maxed at capacity, so we may be leasing space in the other tower.
There were, originally, three towers planned for this site, including a hotel. There is another tower (supposedly) in the works, but it's still in the design phase. Original plan for La Jolla Commons, render by AECOM/Hines Interests http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/3...commonsgq2.jpg |
That's actually extraordinarily pathetic. :(

The pictured building looks like it could be the one in the lower right of the 4 renders posted by Chapelo.
