INTERNATIONAL AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS:
The international aircraft movements have shown an increase of 13.8 per cent during April – December 2006-07. Growth rates of different categories of airports are mentioned in Annexure –I and airport-wise details are given in Annexure –IIA. Major increases are at (Annexure-IIA): • Delhi 13.9% • Cochin (CIAL) 24.3% • Bangalore 31.3% • Jaipur 64.9% • Trivandrum 30.3% • Calicut 21.3% • Amritsar 19.5% • Gaya 52.5% The higher growth in traffic at the above airports is because of increase in frequency by existing Airlines / start of operations by new Airlines. |

Sorry, was late to see your posts. Trissur project was also there right from the beginning. See Trissur thread for a rendering. It has started off since it is mostly a residential project. I have posted Sobha group's plans from today's Manorama in Cochin thread. In short, Sobha Hi-tech City is expected to have Rs. 5000 cr initially and Rs.15000 crore investment when complete. That "Rs.50000 crore" was most likely a typo. It is thought to be a Rs.5000 cr investment. But it is different from Sobha group's. The name of the investor is not revealed yet. |
oops!! no investment of that magnitude in calicut????

Regarding the malls mentioned, As far as I know pantaloons are quiet out of the picture right now.
One of the malls in mavoor road was to be rented out to pantaloon but due to exorbitant Rent, they backed off. From reliable sources, its known that Blue diamond plot has been acquired by swargachitra appachan and the mall will be constructed in collaboration with hi-lite – the promoters of focus mall. While growing number of malls might be a reflection of booming calicut, sustainability of this growth is uncertain. all these malls except the one in ymca, are located within half a km radius. Does the city really have what it takes to underpin these malls? |

regarding sustainability of malls i think future look good...with the coming IT park called cyber park etc can boost the no of money spenting class in calicut.. hope every thing will go straight:) . |
The European Union Film Festival, which kicks off at the Tagore Centenary Hall in Kozhikode on Monday, offers an opportunity for the followers of serious cinema in Malabar.
Films from different European countries will be screened over the next five days. The opening film is `Do Not Disturb' (Netherlands). Directed by Dick Mass, the film narrates the adventures of a 10-year-old American girl who witnesses a murder in Amsterdam. The festival features 20 films, two of which were shown at the last IFFK in Thiruvananthapuram - `Iberia' (Spain), directed by Carlos Saura, regarded as one of the finest film-makers in Europe today, and `Persona Non Grata' (Poland), directed by Krzysztof Zanussi. ``One could expect to see many quality films at this festival,'' says K.R. Mohanan, chairman, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, which jointly organises the festival with the Delegation of European Commission to India, Bhutan and Nepal. ``I myself am looking forward to films from the former eastern block countries,'' he says. Academy vice-chairman V.K. Joseph says Kozhikode was chosen as the venue of the festival because the academy wants to take good cinema to different parts of the State. ``This festival was held in Thiruvananthpuram for the last three years, but the people there have many opportunities to see world cinema, as there is the IFFK, besides other festivals. Kozhikode was an obvious choice because the IFFK held here was very well received,'' he says. Kozhikode is one of the four Indian cities where these European films are being shown; New Delhi, Kolkata and Pune are the other cities. Over 400 delegates passes have been distributed so far. ``We expect the demand for more passes over the next couple of days,'' says Mohan. |
Kozhikode: The Malabar Chamber of Commerce and the Calicut Airport Committee have jointly demanded that the Department of Public Works take steps to convert the road from the Kolathur Junction to the airport a four-lane road.
In a memorandum submitted to Minister for Public Works T.U Kuruvilla on Tuesday, chamber president P. Zakeer and committee chairman P.V. Chandran said that the department had not taken any steps to ensure the safety of pedestrians although the road had been widened and dividers installed. Footpaths needed Footpaths should be constructed and streetlights installed, they said. Traffic on the road would be heavy with the more international flights operating services from the Calicut airport. |

tanx 4 the link sanju. but i'm keen on following the developments in Calicut alone. not very interested in other places. the city has not been given enough opportunities to grow. else it wouldve been one of the metros in india today. the potential of beypore port is immense. apart from this, calicut can b an educational and knowledge hub. it is a trading center for spices. last but not the least, there is good tourism potential.
