Energy Corridor Light Show at Energy Center 3

Filmed this just a while ago. This is standing east across Eldridge Parkway from ConocoPhillips' new Energy Center 3 building. Nice addition to not only the building but to the Energy Corridor. I wonder if the other two buildings will have something similar?

thanks for the video! in one of the descriptions for the complex i seem to recall that building III was the only one they mentioned having an "illuminated lantern". hopefully the others do too though, it could make for a cool vibe in the area. so no screens facing west?

I didn't even think to check, but I will take a look tonight to see if they installed one of these "lanterns" on the west side of the building (unless somebody else already knows the answer). I think that would look nice.

An added extra detail about the Woodlands Hotel and Conference Center; it's losing some hotel rooms but gaining a multi-family neighbor. No details on what it looks like yet.

Mystery Houston Construction Project will Blow You Away

I'm sure we've all been puzzled by this structure on I-10 between Bunker Hill and Blalock. This caught me off guard the first time I saw this and it always bothered me as to what it's purpose is. This article (sort of) explains what is going on.

It's called classic architecture. Retro. Throw-back.

I happen to like it very much. It is common in Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper to build high schools with this type of architecture. Modern architecture in high schools
is not as common, but is still applied in new construction.

Heh.. Pretty sure he meant throw up as in put up/build another high-rise on site. Is that colonial thing still happening? For some reason I was thinking/hoping that proposal was replaced by the recent citycentre expansion.

i forget the reasoning.. we talked about it a bit in the Phillips 66 HQ thread over on HAIF since those high-rises are metal framed structures.

And now we know why all the new hotel proposals...

From BisNow:

"Source Strategies Inc president Bruce Walker, who gave a market overview, says that as of Q2, the Houston market’s occupancy is 73.6%, and RevPAR is $89.45, up over 9% for the year. Both are very healthy numbers, and room nights sold went up 5% in the second quarter, a “monumentally high number.” Since 2010, Houston’s seen slow supply growth—roughly 1% a year, so Houston’s not oversupplied with rooms right now."

Those are huge numbers. I don't recall Houston doing better than the mid-60s on occupancy - ever. Only New York and Las Vegas have those kinds of numbers.

Yeah, it's just east of 610. They're riding on the tails of the new River Oaks District, also not really in river oaks, just south of SkyHouse/Westcreek. Kind of like how there is a "Midtown Plaza" mid rise on i10 just north of Washington.. Lol.

How in the world do you figure this?

Sky House River Oaks is less than half a mile away from River Oaks' Western boundary (San Felipe @ River Oaks) and probably only a mile or so from River Oaks Blvd. It is MILES closer to River Oaks than anything in downtown.

More signs Houston is booming: sales of million dollar homes are booming. In 1975, $100,000 was a lot of money for a home.

What makes this amazing is that average property prices in Houston, while increasing, are lower than many East and West Coast locations.

This is the northeast corner of Montrose and 59 adjacent to the 'double' bridge. It joins eight other existing and planned highrises between Westheimer and the Mecom Fountain directly on or adjacent to Montrose Blvd.

Seriously.. I see you are from Atlanta. Here are a few other projects just outside of frame/along Westcreek Ln between Westheimer and San Felipe. This 21 story office tower is going up right by SkyHouse River Oaks.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/...psxi8vseyb.jpg

http://swamplot.com/wp-content/uploa...ntre-night.jpg

More Westcreek development, this plot just north of SkyHouse river oaks was recently purchased by Randall Davis with intentions of building a 100 unit condo tower on .8 acres and selling off the other acre of his property to another developer.

http://i1339.photobucket.com/albums/...pslclpylni.jpg

And Oliver McMillians' River Oaks District, just south of the Westcreek development (OM recently purchased 3.4 acres across Westcreek Ln for a Phase 2 of ROD, likely to go vertical).

and then across 610 there are 3 26-30 story towers going up within a block or so of each other, with plans for a handful more in the area..

toxteth o'grady Oct 3, 2014 2:10 PM

Four if you count the Hanover project that is presumably going to be ready for occupancy very shortly if not immediately.

Even with as much condo construction as there is in Houston (with more to follow) it's not as intense as it could be; Dallas has been very active in matching up EB-5 investors (the guys who put money into apartments so that they can get a visa to move to the US) with condo projects. The Astoria's got a certain number of EB-5 investors, and I'm certain Randall Davis will be looking for more of these investors to help him build his new tower next to the Skyhouse River Oaks. EB-5s are the crowd-funding of real estate.

Incidentally, HBJ mentions EB-5 in connection with a condo project rumored for Block 384 downtown; 240 apartments in that one, which is near Toyota Center. Any idea which project that is?

Energy Tower is also leasing up.

And if it appeared that unemployed construction workers were getting scarce in the area, there's a good reason...

construction activity is definitely spilling across 610 to the inside of the west loop.. Frost Bank Tower? do you mean the Amegy* Bank HQ? true, though not much info has been released on that (hopefully we will finally see that hyped up rendering soon since Micro Center is closing that location this month). i was just kind of listing the stuff immediately surrounding SkyHouse River Oaks. also planned for the area is that "boutique" office high-rise on St James; a 30 story hotel on 610 next to Landrys HQ and the Bentley dealership; a 40 story residential tower at Post Oak/San Felipe; 5 more towers at BLVD Place; an office tower (~30 stories) between Four Oaks Place and Uptown Park; the redevelopment of Uptown Park with a handful of high-rises, including a high end 4-5* 40 story hotel/residence combo tower; the foreign investor who plans to redevelop the Post Oak Park Townhomes; The Perennial 36ish story hotel/residential combo tower and 28 story office tower; the 5 highrises at MidLane/Azalea Court; and River Oaks District expansion/Phase 2, thats likely to go vertical. and im probably forgetting some. ha... its getting CRAZY around the west loop.
