Energy Corridor Light Show at Energy Center 3
Filmed this just a while ago. This is standing east across Eldridge Parkway from ConocoPhillips' new Energy Center 3 building. Nice addition to not only the building but to the Energy Corridor. I wonder if the other two buildings will have something similar?

An added extra detail about the Woodlands Hotel and Conference Center; it's losing some hotel rooms but gaining a multi-family neighbor. No details on what it looks like yet.

Mystery Houston Construction Project will Blow You Away
I'm sure we've all been puzzled by this structure on I-10 between Bunker Hill and Blalock. This caught me off guard the first time I saw this and it always bothered me as to what it's purpose is. This article (sort of) explains what is going on.

I think Cy Fair got the better looking building:

More vacant space gets occupied, as Coats Rose (real estate lawyers) moves into 50,000 sf of space in 9 Greenway Plaza.

The sky's the limit: Houston's high-rise craze moves into the suburbs with new towers
A good article from CultureMap Houston, touching on the high-rise trend in Houston and how they are beginning to spread into the "suburbs", including the Woodlands and Pearland (yes, Pearland).

I happen to like it very much. It is common in Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper to build high schools with this type of architecture. Modern architecture in high schools is not as common, but is still applied in new construction. I was looking at some old photos from the buildings that were built before the internet age and I was wondering if anyone knew why buildings do not seem to be built with the steel frame technique like more of the older skyscrapers.

And now we know why all the new hotel proposals...
From BisNow: "Source Strategies Inc president Bruce Walker, who gave a market overview, says that as of Q2, the Houston market’s occupancy is 73.6%, and RevPAR is $89.45, up over 9% for the year. Both are very healthy numbers, and room nights sold went up 5% in the second quarter, a “monumentally high number.” Since 2010, Houston’s seen slow supply growth—roughly 1% a year, so Houston’s not oversupplied with rooms right now." Those are huge numbers. I don't recall Houston doing better than the mid-60s on occupancy - ever. Only New York and Las Vegas have those kinds of numbers. |

I just realized the oddity of the name - the Skyhouse downtown is probably closer to the heart of River Oaks than the SRO, which is closer to Uptown and the Galleria.

Sky House River Oaks is less than half a mile away from River Oaks' Western boundary (San Felipe @ River Oaks) and probably only a mile or so from River Oaks Blvd. It is MILES closer to River Oaks than anything in downtown. |

More signs Houston is booming: sales of million dollar homes are booming. In 1975, $100,000 was a lot of money for a home.
Houston among hottest U.S. cities for luxury home sales What makes this amazing is that average property prices in Houston, while increasing, are lower than many East and West Coast locations. |

"A Houston map from 1900 is practically swallowed up when placed over an image of the city's existing boundaries, easily fitting inside the 610 Loop." You can click on the link below and use the eyepiece to hover over the city of Houston and see how much the city has grown since 1900. It joins eight other existing and planned highrises between Westheimer and the Mecom Fountain directly on or adjacent to Montrose Blvd. 3400 Montrose is going to be a beast. http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/...psa1f359f8.jpg |
That's the first time I've seen a height ascribed to that Museum Tower. Is that the rumored Hines project? Because it's still not even shown on that development map for the Menil.

Four if you count the Hanover project that is presumably going to be ready for occupancy very shortly if not immediately.
Even with as much condo construction as there is in Houston (with more to follow) it's not as intense as it could be; Dallas has been very active in matching up EB-5 investors (the guys who put money into apartments so that they can get a visa to move to the US) with condo projects. The Astoria's got a certain number of EB-5 investors, and I'm certain Randall Davis will be looking for more of these investors to help him build his new tower next to the Skyhouse River Oaks. EB-5s are the crowd-funding of real estate. Incidentally, HBJ mentions EB-5 in connection with a condo project rumored for Block 384 downtown; 240 apartments in that one, which is near Toyota Center. Any idea which project that is? |

Energy Tower sports rare block of vacant space, but it’s filling up And if it appeared that unemployed construction workers were getting scarce in the area, there's a good reason... Houston leads the country with the most construction jobs added |

There is definitely not a crane for Marquette. It's still being used as parking.
