I can't wait until Salesforce Tower is topped off. This will be the most impressive tower in the west in my opinion.

Nice pic, but from this view SF skyline doesn't look that impressive. Most impressive coming in on Bay Bridge, or from Belvedere Island or Sausalito. L.A. skyline the same--looks impressive from some sides (south especially coming north on Harbor Fwy or from Dodger Stadium) & not so impressive from other angles. LA's mistake was having that dumb 150 foot height limit (excepting City Hall) before the 1960s. Without that L.A. would have some nice Art Deco towers over 30 stories from the 1920s, not just a bunch of modernist flat tops. Now we just have City Hall. You have the Telephone Building & Russian Bldg and a few others.

P.S. has SF made any progress with the homeless problem? last time I was there, it was very bad. Same in LA & San Diego. It is really a problem for the people that are homeless, and the places where they camp out.

It doesn't look impressive from this angle because its it taken from 30 floors up. Looking down on other high rises distorts the massing and therefore decreases the impressiveness of the skyline.

Yes, the bare concrete core was very noticeable on my ramblings around Mission Bay yesterday.

What is happening? Is only half the core rising from now on? :shrug:

Yes. The top of the core in the picture above, is floor 50. Above it, the walls of core will be reduced by one half:

It's pretty standard for the core of a large building particularly office buildings to reduce in size as they rise.

Well if they only have to pour half the cement than they were this building should be rising much faster now. :yes:

New floors!

They don't call it "The Manhattan of the West" for nothing. But you ain't seen nothing yet. Wait til you get a load of Foster + Partners' Oceanwide Center, set to rise over 900 feet just to the left of Salesforce Tower in the pic, and it's 600 ft. companion tower which will include, appropriately enough, a Waldorf Astoria hotel. Groundbreaking is scheduled towards year end.

With the placement of level 52 rebar in the southern corner, Salesforce Tower today surpassed 555 California and became the second tallest building in San Francisco (at approximately 780 feet).

After Salesforce and Oceanwide, will that be it or is there more super tall buildings planned for SF? For awhile I was satisfied with what is going up, but now I'm getting greedy. Lol ;)

I just noticed that the star atop the Pyramid is glowing tonight--could this be signifying that it will very soon loose its status as the City's tallest building? It has reigned for 44 years, since its completion in 1972.

181 Fremont, which is rapidly rising across from Salesforce Tower, will be 802 feet to the tip of its short spire. There is one other that may reach approximately 800 feet with its crown, then that will be it for quite some time. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=217919&page=2

Only problem I have with Salesforce Tower is I think having four slits in the top is too much. It would look better if it only had two--one on the south side and one on the north side. Or one on the west side and one on the east side. Maybe my mind will change when I see it all done. One slit wouldn't be good because then it would look like a giant penis. Lol. Having no slits at all wouldn't be good either. Two seems just right for me. :tup:
