According to this article it says it could be 20 to 40 floors. I wasn't thinking it would be this tall, but I guess it's possible. The lot is really small.

Another new building could be going up in Downtown Austin.

The landowner of The Brick Oven pizzeria, located at 12th and Red River Streets, has decided to build bigger. The restaurant has been at that location for about 30 years. Now, owners are trying to rezone the land and build a 20 to 40 story building on the property.

Downtown Austin landowner Allen Nalle may need a developer to build shops and possibly a condo or medical office tower at the corner of 12th and Red River streets, where the Brick Oven Pizzeria has been for 30 years.

Nalle is having the 0.366 acres he owns at 1209 Red River St. rezoned to make way for a planned 152,160-square-foot building. If it gets the City Council’s OK Sept. 27 — it already got the Planning Commission’s blessing — the site would place more valuable real estate next to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where the University of Texas and Seton

Yeah, I had figured this thing wasn't completely serious and that it might be dead, but they're moving on the permits.

No, nothing yet. I think the 20 to 40 floors number came from an article about it. It's probably changed form now, and we'll have to wait for more info.

It was resubmitted this morning. (I thought there used to be a thread for this project in the Austin subforum. But it doesn't appear to be there now.)

According to the site plan that was filed with the city, this will be a 22-story hotel with 260 rooms. The address is 1201 Red River Street.

GMR created the Austin Lifestyle Hotel Project to develop a hotel in Austin, Texas. GMR has identified a downtown location for a +250 room, +$100 million budget, upper-upscale lifestyle hotel.

GMR is an investor, the developer, and owner of the project.


Austin Lifestyle Hotel Project signed a 99-year lease to build its boutique lifestyle hotel in Austin Texas.

“The location is ideal. It is in the middle of the State Capital, University of Texas, 6th street entertainment area, and I-20,” said Craig Bull, Managing Director GMR, LLC.

Brett Norwich, Chief Executive Officer GMR, LLC added,”the site will accommodate a +250 room hotel with multiple food and beverage venues. We could not be happier.”

GMR is the developer and a principal in the project.

Let's get this out of the way first: The Trump name will not be attached to a high-rise hotel planned for just east of the Texas Capitol in Austin.

Negotiations about attaching the president's name to the proposed tower at 12th and Red River streets, on the site of the Brick Oven Restaurant, broke down before the November election, said Jim Wittliff, president of Austin-based Land Answers Inc.

However, developers still want to build a hotel on the property. Empyrean Development is behind an effort to build what it calls Hotel Mirabeau at 1201 Red River St., which would rise 33 stories and have 297 rooms, the Austin American-Statesman reports. It is one of several new hotels on the drawing board for downtown.

This has been redesigned with a new height of 335'. It will start construction on September 1st, apparently.
