MELBOURNE | Prima-Pearl | 823FT / 251M | 72 FLOORS

Well, it's been a long time coming with this, having been proposed about 6 years ago and going through a few redesigns......... IT'S FINALLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Also the 200+m tower construction drought is over.

Congrats Melbourne !
It'll be a nice 3rd tallest by roof height :)

Nice to see one from Melbourne.
I like the design, it's very sleek.

Tower X Apr 16, 2011 4:00 AM

Melbourne's skyline keep's changing, i love it.

there are like 10-15 proposals over 200m in melbourne right?
and about 3-5 currently under construction with the carlton bewery site the tallest at 298m.

tayser Apr 16, 2011 1:16 PM

I was looking at the SSP diagram earlier today...

there's only 1 200m tower U/C

The signature tower at CUB is -not- U/C in fact Grocon are looking to offload the site to another developer with the 275m permit in tact.

the only other 200+m tower proposal likely to move to a U/C status soon is 568 Collins St.

Hopefully it gets built, Australia's property market is heading for the fan.

tayser Apr 16, 2011 10:54 PM

they've been saying that for years - however when the residential vacancy is around 4% and population growth at 250k p/a many people will disagree.

In the early 2000s in Melbourne the high-rise construction was concentrated in CBD + Docklands + Southbank. It's now spread to the whole middle ring of 'burbs - so yeah big ones are taking their time, but they're not out of the game!

Tower X Apr 16, 2011 11:24 PM

give it a few years, and Melbourne will become one of the finest skyscraper cities around.

there are a few buildings under construction/approved over 200m that i have found
70 Southbank Boulevard
Prima Tower
568 Collins Street
496 Elizabeth Street
Abode318
and
399 Bourke Street

Do you know what's happening with the CUB site? what stage is it at?

tayser Apr 16, 2011 11:42 PM

Prima = Pearl.

updating that from the main projects & construction thread...

CUB Site - as above, it's merely approved and Grocon are seeking a buyer of the site - the rest of the CUB site is being developed in stages, Portrait is the first one Grocon are developing.
70 Southbank Boulevard has had a height increase to 225m, and this weekend's Capital Gain in the Age said that tenants in the existing building were moving so expect sales to start on that soon.
399 Bourke Street - no design change, still waiting for a pre-commitment from a corporate.
72 Collins STreet - has been shortened I think - not sure.
568 Collins Street - construction "rumoured" to commence in July/August (has already gone through its sales cycle)
496 Elizabeth st - still no movement by the developer (Brady) as yet.

btw are you on OzScrapers?

this tower's just had a height increase approved for 235m :)

whether the developer goes with it..... eh who knows.

Tower X May 12, 2011 9:51 AM

235m? That will make it Melbourne's 7th tallest?

tayser Jun 21, 2011 9:26 PM

Melbourne's 2nd Tallest Residential Building Moves to Contract Documentation

Situated on the corner of Queensbridge Street and Power Street in Southbank, directly opposite the Crown Entertainment Complex, Prima Tower will rise 72 levels to join the Rialto and Eureka as the being amongst Melbourne’s tallest buildings.

Now at contract documentation stage, the 253 metre apartment tower will cater for the growing premium residential market. It is being architecturally designed by Disegno Australia for the joint venture partnership of PDG Corporation and Schiavello.

253m is RL, the site is 2m above sea level, hence new height is: 251m (4m shortern than Rialto!)

can a mod update the thread title?

cheers.

Dale Jun 21, 2011 11:25 PM

I thought that Rialto was 243 meters. It's typically listed at 792 feet.
