Under Planning Schedule there's an entry under "Stage/Milestone" that reads "Decision on Detailed Impact Analysis" with a Timing of Spring/Summer 2020. Has a decision been made? If this is approved or about to be it would be a great infrastructure project for the feds to invest in. |
yay traffic light at Field :uhh:
|
Yeah I was wondering if a decision on the DIA had been made as scheduled for spring/summer 2020 ?
The 8-10 year timeline to get funding and complete construction is about what I expected. When Airboy mentioned seeing stakes all along the route I got hopeful they might be accelerating things but I can’t find anything saying so. :( And yes Dengler I agree - we can’t be adding traffic lights to the TCH so bite the bullet and do the Field intersection properly. :superwhip |
For me, I'm simply concerned that trucks will burn the red light regardless and kill people...
|
We discussed the traffic light at Fields on here months ago.
Sent in my response demanding an interchange there. Also 8 to 10 years for completing 40km of highway is sadly lightning fast for the #1... |

Pretty ridiculous to add a signal to the Trans Canada, but it will be interesting to see how it is installed. This is a stretch of highway managed by Parks Canada, so it may not be installed to the same standard as BC MOTI signals. It will likely be a slightly different standard, maybe even have horizontal lights like Alberta has.

Anything happening on Kicking Horse Phase 4 yet ?
The website hasn’t been updated since June. :???::shrug: |

I highly doubt that this will happen in November, but you'll know when they send you down the 93. ;)

They can reduce the scope of the project around Chase. KHC Phase 4? There's no way they can reduce it. The only issue is that cost for this one is going up by 35%...

Lets get this thing across the finish line before the NDP kill it.

The Kicking Horse final has been awarded to Emil Anderson of Kelowna.

Looks like Quesnel is getting a bypass and new bridge

I just saw this. Does it mean what I think it means?? Also since when does the short segment around Memorial Park (i.e. immediately east of the curved divided 4 lanes) have 4 lanes? It looks recent. |

Okay that’s what I thought too. For the longest time, only that sharp curve was twinned. Okay, that proceeded quietly. Now I wanna see the same thing in Revelstoke N.P. because too many fatal crashes happened there.

Look at this one here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tranbc/...57716918592192 It is all BC government photos. Twining to Chase west is going full steam and it will be done next year. After that they should continue east through the village. |
^Thanks for the link to all the photos of the twinning outside of Chase, it’s too bad it’s such a short stretch. Hopefully they continue to 4-lane east of Kamloops on a regular basis to keep extending that section eastward.
As for the 4-laning around Rogers pass, I couldn’t find any info on it but I too have driven through there and seen it happening. Found info regarding expansion around Illecillewaet and Quartz Creek Bridge but nothing specifically about Rogers Pass area. I did stumble upon this dated (25 years) comprehensive report that I thought was interesting: http://https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/driving-and-transportation/reports-and-reference/reports-and-studies/rocky-mountains/kicking-horse/corridor-management/studies-summary-9610.pdf |
:previous:
The meat is between slides 63 and 68. It’s interesting that Golden’s meant to be bypassed (unless that’s already the Northern Bypass). |

Here is another interesting slide from Parks Canada: https://pc.gc.ca/-/media/pn-np/bc/yo...t-overview.pdf Proposal for twining by Filed. Please note the pedestrian traffic light by Filed Visitor Center. I choked and heart attack later. There must be another way. Arrrrgh:hell: |
Send your email demanding an interchange there as many of us have.
I wonder when we will get an update on that project. |

^^ ^ Yeah I submitted my feedback to that months ago as well. Crazy to be adding traffic lights to the TCH as part of an “upgrade”. :hell: |

^Damn! :(
I thought we might be getting some “surprise” twinning. |

Speaking of federal funding, has B.C. received it for KHC Phase 4 yet? I wonder whether that's why the feds don't wanna put in more...
|
Not sure if everyone here is already aware, but they seem to be providing updates about the project on this site: https://www.kickinghorsecanyon.ca/about/news/
Latest update is from Dec 18th regarding a new potable water station. Built because the current source will be inaccessible during construction. Things actually seem to be moving now, haha. Is it safe to assume that this summer we will finally start to see major roadworks on KH phase 4? |
https://globalnews.ca/news/7580297/b...ghway-closure/
Kicking Horse is under way. Article from Global. it is going to be big  |
The Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 project will be underway soon, with a month long highway closure coming in the spring. Traffic will be rerouted through Radium and Kootenay NP. In preparation, a new roundabout has been completed at the 93/95 junction in Radium, complete with fancy freeway style sign gantries at each entrance.
