I'd imagine the initial cantilever portion (which is coming up after the base retail portion is structurally topped), will also take some time. After that, the actual tower portion should rise fairly quick, maybe not 432 Park quick but construction will definitely accelerate the higher it gets.

Again, it's the department store being built, which is highly complex. The tower won't start shooting up until they've passed the retail levels.

Walked by the site today, there is no visible change since last pictures on the thread. No point of taking any "new" photos. This was the first tower to start excavation from the great 5 ( CPT, 220CP, 111 W 57, 520 Park Ave, TV) and now is (soon) the last behind them all. Hopefully, like Crawford said, it will pick up after the retail part is done which will be toward the end of this year.

^ The good news is that they're all above street level. Soon there will be multiple Hudson Yards towers above street level as well, so we'll be pretty busy keeping pace.

It's hard for me to tell with this building, but it looks like it has made some progress. The retail portion looks more filled in and the main structure looks a little taller.
Just seems to be growing slowly, but hopefully it will pick up speed with the warmer weather...not that we had a cold winter by any means.

CCs77 Mar 7, 2016 4:30 AM

Looking at this two pictures you can tell than although the progress is rather slow, there is indeed some progress.
You can see they advanced in the steel of the podium and I'm pretty sure there's been a core jump.

An aerial of CPT on the left, and 220 CPS on the right. Also on the top right, a glimpse of the Pyramid.

Hi guys!

There is the progress during the month of February.

Thank you!!!

NYguy Mar 21, 2016 11:50 PM

This is starting to take on the feel of a tower that could be the tallest in the city, particularly on the 58th Street side where most of the action takes place. I don't know how they coordinate things between this and 220 CPS, but they're both very busy.

Thanks for the fantastic update NYguy.
Call me a height nut, but this is still the building I'm most excited to see rise. Glad it's starting to grow

NYguy Mar 22, 2016 5:27 PM

^ It would be great to have official renderings (of the tower) to go along with it's rise.

Quote:

Gary Barnett, the developer who touched off a luxury-condo boom in Manhattan, will play host next month to a group of Israeli bond investors who are worried about dimming global interest in New York City’s costliest homes.

“It was not at our invitation, but we’re happy to host them,” Barnett said by phone on March 17. “We’re happy to have them here, and to take them through our properties and to show them the quality and the strength of the assets.”

Central Park Tower

Barnett acknowledged slowing demand for New York’s priciest apartments, but said the risk is mitigated for Israeli creditors because the Extell unit issuing the bonds is backed by a pool of diverse properties that also includes hotels, rentals and less-expensive condos. As for his upcoming luxury developments -- including Central Park Tower on West 57th St. -- Barnett said he acquired land for them years ago at favorable costs, which means he doesn’t need to sell condos at record prices in order to see a return.

“One of the things we’ve tried to make clear to the bond investors is that Extell Ltd. is not dependent on getting these super-high luxury prices,” Barnett said. “There are many ways of repaying the debt and we don’t anticipate we’ll have a problem.”

I agree. That's the only thing that worries me. I hope the lack of a rendering doesn't mean that they are going to cut the height. I hope it still rises the full 1550'

If only we were lucky enough to have them cut the height of this ode to mediocrity. I'd much prefer Steinway be the apex of Central Park than this.

hunser Mar 23, 2016 12:08 AM

CPT should transfer its 500 feet to Verre. :P

They won't cut the height. They would then have to build a wider tower, losing views to 220 CPS. The tower is too far along for that, considering the position over the store. Barnett is going to build to full potential here, he bought up those extra air rights to use. The lack of the rendering is typical Extell. When they begin marketing in full we'll probably see more. But completion is around 2019 sometime, so I don't think we will get a render from them anytime soon. Still, I'm surprised DOB hasn't forced them to put something up on site, even a generic rendering. Contrast that with the HUMONGOUS Steinway rendering.

Vortex11 Mar 23, 2016 3:07 AM

^^

Interesting points. Do you think Gary may actually be holding out on releasing a rendering because something even taller may rise? Isn't the 1550' technically to the highest occupied floor? So, in theory, he could build his highest apartment at 1550' and then have a 150-200 foot crown? This would give him an edge over 220 CPS residing in front of Nordstrom and the Steinway tower right down the street. Not to mention TV a few blocks back.

i.e. with so much competition in the luxury market, pure height is a surefire way to stand out.

WIGGLEWORTH Mar 23, 2016 3:18 AM

^Sadly. That isn't likely to happen. There isnt enough necessity for Barnett to put out more money.
