835 is kinda lame (for this lot) but then again Chicago is one of the world's most spoiled skyscraper cities, so still a great addition

that kinda sums up my feelings as well.

the proposed building is certainly not offensive to me, but i was really hoping for something more magical at this supremely prominent spot.

Hines is playing it safe here. there's nothing objectively wrong with that (that's how successful businesses stay in business), but i imagine the final result will always feel a little bit like a lost opportunity to me.

There is still hope for something very tall and iconic at the Spire site still, right?
That is another spot that would really stand out.

My feelings on this have bounced around a lot. Now I'm back to "what a letdown". Height is irrelevant. It's not the 835 feet. It's the 835 feet of "meh".

I've also grown less enamored with WPE as its grown. I'm probably in the extreme minority on that. But neither of these really move the needle IMO, after so much anticipation.

To be fair if you Google 'one chicago square height' it still says 1011 feet. But if you run a blog on Chicago architecture you should probably know that kinda stuff and not look on Wikipedia.

Regarding this project (and Chicago Architecture Blog) they did post drawings in that blog showing where the tower will be located. You can see the room they will have for staging (for those curious)

The extra 150 feet are missed though. Proportions are all off now.

This is a very crucial spot indeed, even more special than where Trump Hotel & Tower is. Trump looks appropriate for its prime location, but this 835-footer does not.

Would writing a heartfelt message to the Kennedy family help change their minds to making a taller building? =p Do they still own and operate the space?
