Once the new building is completed, it will be officially called The McDonald's Towers.

Here's hoping they don't need an extension. And more importantly, here's hoping councilmembers don't buckle under the pressure from hotel and grocery worker unions to kill the project...

Anyone have any update on this?? Wondering (and hoping) if Cisterra got approval

Hi SD skyscraper devotees. As the most informed YIMBYs in SD, I wanted to let you know about to my attempt at replacing the dearly departed CCDC Interactive Project map. It's a downtown development map. It's a work in progress. Please feel free to let me know of any projects missing from the map: http://sandiego.urbdezine.com/development-map/

Thank you so much for taking this on!! The Civic SD project list and map is so ridiculously out of date it's just painful and embarrassing to look at. We really could use an up to date project map like this ;)

Your welcome! Don't know why I didn't think of doing this sooner!

If Camp Pendleton didn't exist and Oceanside started building north towards San Clemente, and San Clemente started creeping south into SD County, SD and LA would technically be connected. :P

Can also see some construction in the image below. I gotta say, holy crap! San Diego has gotten pretty big and dense.

It's great to get shots like these every couple years to see how the city is taking shape. Lots more projects over the next few years to continue the trend and East Village keeps motoring along.

Whats project is the crane for in the far right side of the picture? Looks like it might be in Gaslamp.

Took me a while to find the crane, but I'm pretty sure that's for the Pendry Hotel. And yes, that's a Gaslamp project (J St between 5th and 6th).

The metro areas are connected around the back of Pendleton.

15th & Island North Tower (45 story, 479 ft.) from Pinnacle development is under site-prep. I was able to walk by the development site and saw construction equipment along with construction crew on-site.

SANDAG has proposed a new building in downtown, and they could move their headquarters into it. Looks like this site is just north of the new courthouse.

SANDAG plans new downtown highrise, bus depot

Rapid Bus way station would be part of mixed-use building

San Diego — The San Diego Association of Governments might get into the real estate development business and construct a highrise downtown.

The regional planning and land use organization is in the early steps of persuing a 600,000-square-foot building with retail, office and residential space and a stopover facility for Metropolitan Transit System Rapid Buses on the city block bound by A, Union, C and State streets.

I can talk a lot of shit about SANDAG but this is good idea. Build it.

The SANDAG project sounds interesting. Luckily, it isn't in an area with a lot of residents. I look forward to seeing renders.

Can anyone answer why the FAA has a blanketed height restriction on DT when there are parts of EV and the Gaslamp that are further than a mile and a half from the runway? I always understood the 500 ft height limit to be specifically for projects within 1.5 miles of Lindbergh, but when I checked on the distance of some projects from EV, specifically Ballpark Village, they are further away than that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in 2016, with GPS and other major advances in aircraft technology and safety, isn't there some room for negotiation on this? I get that a number of projects being approved by Civic SD aren't even coming close to 500, but then again, this skyline could use some more height.

Last week, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, philanthropist Irwin Jacobs and representatives from the park’s many institutions stood together to announce the revival of a plan to remove vehicle traffic from the heart of the park and recirculate cars along a new bypass road to a new, 800-spot underground parking garage.

There remain major details to work out, starting with cost. The 2012 plan was estimated to cost $45 million and be financed via $31 million of private donations and $14 million in bonds that would fund the parking garage construction, but Faulconer says those figures will be revised in coming weeks. The bonds would still be paid off by charging for parking in the new garage, but that figure hasn’t been finalized, either; in 2012, that fee was pegged at $5 per visit. Last week, Faulconer told an editorial writer the amount of that fee was under review, too. In response to a question, he also didn’t rule out eliminating the fee once the bonds are paid off.
