Everyone meet West Houston Master-Plan at Memorial Park. Renderings just released a couple of hours ago. By the way this was designed for Hine's.

Damn Hughes Landing looks amazing!!!

Bethel Church Park in Midtown nearly complete. The church was severely damaged back in 2005, the walls were saved and used as part of the park.

The complex is huge! no wonder they went outside the city, I can't think of a good place within city limits to built such a massive project. |

You know, there's always the option of going downtown and building up.
I'm actually really sad about the Exxon/Mobile campus but everything else going on in Houston is so big and good that it makes it better. |
Yeah the Exxon mobile campus is a big loser for downtown.
|
Imagine how many parking lots downtown would have lost if they built the campus in the desolate areas of Downtown, built exactly the way it was built in North Houston.
|
That wouldn't be good either. That would prevent a lot of future developments and residential from happening. I just wish they would have built like an 800' tower or something downtown instead.
|
Yeah, they should have chose to stay downtown in 800 Bell, and just build a supertall on a lot nearby.
|
Their campus is 3 million square feet. That would have easily have been a 1,400 foot tower/supertall in Downtown.
|
I think it was a good move from the company to save a few bucks on taxes. And yeah who wouldn't like a +1000ft building in Houston.

I have to admit as a an architecture/planning fan I love the design, but am conflicted on the location. But I love the West Houston master plan at Memorial Park even more. That is absolutely gorgeous! |

Home values are rising all over the metro area. There was a ULI event a while back where the panel basically said that the supply of single family homes was 3 years behind demand. Plus since the contractors are so busy, the cost of construction for new homes is up as well. So in short, it's a seller's market for the next few years. Even places like Katy and Richmond are seeing prices increase.
|
I think the most surprising thing going on in Houston right now is the amount of renovations going on in DT, especially hotels. Houston is pretty underrated for tourism/business travel with all these "attractions" alongside rail and more hotel rooms DT will only expand on that.
|
Well, I guess as of this morning, this project is ready for the Construction thread.

I was referring to the beautiful renderings Tower Spotter posted a couple of pages back in post #5303. I've never been to Houston. While I have a general understanding of the layout of the metro area, a lot of what I see here frankly confuses me since I don't really know the specifics of the area and certain districts, neighborhoods, etc. I am long overdue for a trip down there. ;) |
The metro rail was running on the North Line without being pulled near Patton and Cavalcade.

I love checking out this thread, but I obviously missed that proposal? |
Exxon was never going to leave Houston and move 20,000+ employees away from the energy capital.
As for how well it is being received, we'll see. Personally, I think Exxon made a mistake. The energy business already has an aging workforce and is finding it hard to find qualified candidates. I know a handful of long time Exxon employees who are PISSED OFF about their moves. These are guys that have spent 10-30 years building their lives in West U, Tanglewood, and Southampton (they worked downtown or near Greenway Plaza) and now they are looking at MUCH longer commutes or uprooting their families. I know one who is planning on retiring early and one who is busy with every head hunter in town looking to jump ship to Chevron, Shell, or anyone located closer to his home in Southside Place. I'd imagine there are quite a few folks who might be doing the same. Exxon is taking a gamble that this campus will help set them apart whereas Chevron and Shell have chosen the opposite by remaining and expanding their downtown digs. Most younger folks I know would choose downtown over Springwoods if all other things were equal (pay, hours, benefits, etc...). |
I'm sure the move to the burbs was pushed by the higher ups who are most likely baby boomers or older and still think downtowns are like they were during the 70s.
