People say 500m+ towers are popping up all over China. That's true but they are being built in a more or less sparsely populated area.
An example: Hefei, third- tier Chinese city. 502m tall tower going up right here: By sangguo http://ww1.sinaimg.cn/large/7c1c7679jw1e0cn4uq7qzj.jpg Whereas in New York a tower of similar height is going to be built here... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8502/8...bd754d4a_h.jpg Javier Ortega Figueiral Well I think that says it all. |

Let's just keep the topic on what's being developed here. There's no connection to China.

I wouldn't mind a spire above that, some inspiration from the street... http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148273600/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148273601/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148273602/original.jpg |
:previous: I agree with NYguy on this one -- a spire would certainly be interesting indeed.

I wonder what this could be a reference to...

Can anyone tell me if this building really gets built or it is just a kind of tantalisation???

thank god and all thanks to you too, if it's assure it's getting built, my heart shall cool down...

It has a very good chance of being built. Not only because the higher end residential market in New York is on fire, but the Nordstrom department store chain has already made a huge financial and space commitment here. Also One57 has done so well that I'm sure international buyers are still itching to get their hands on an even taller tower. Everyone just seems to love Extell chief Gary Barnett.

What's that site preparation for if its construction hasn't been yet approved?? Could you please explain??? |
Quote:
|
^ That's correct.
Quote:
Site preparation on new buildings begins regardless because its only a matter of when you get the permit, not if. |
Quote:
They can start site preparation whenever they would like. Given that Nordstrom needs to be open in five years, and the buildout of that store will take some time following construction completion, they will likely get going soon. |
This will be underway shortly. I only wish Extell would get webcams installed like 432 Park so we could savor every minute, from excavation to construction. It wouldn't hurt to have some idea of the design either.
|
Oh! I see guys...
And why is the delay regarding the approval so imminent yet? Any idea on when we first hear of the approval? |

You can watch the thread for updates. |
No demolition yet. Pics from yesterday.

How many buildings actually needed demolition?
|
2 buildings needs to be demolished for this project, one is already gone, the one left is the one with the netting.
As far as the last building being demolished, the "Morton Supermaket" vacated a little over a month ago. I'm no expert but from what i've seen from most building being demolished, they start by ripping apart the interior before tearing out the exterior; that could explain the lack of visible work on that building... just speculating here. |

Just 2 buildings? I was assuming some 4 buildings gonna get demolished. So this time again one more skinny building (like 432 Park) or it is gonna enclose at least the footprint area of One WTC??? |

Quote:
Can you please name them? If more than 2 buildings is it gonna enclose footprint area at least equivalent to One WTC??? Please let me know generously... |

It's a large footprint. The lower floors of the tower will be for the large Nordstrom.
Some older shots of the block from google earth... (outline minus the Broadway portion) http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148453112/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148452865/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148452866/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148452867/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/148452868/original.jpg And here is the breakdown of the floors as per the last permit... Barnett should buy those kind of puny low level buildings next door to his space. Then he could build the mega tower, on top of the mega Nordstrom. Although I suppose that wouldn't be in keeping with the 'Neo-Skyscraper' theme of tall and skinny.

Hey, I hear that its footprint's coming around to be 40000 square feet in area and that is almost exactly equal to One WTC's.
So it's coming impressive and really big unlike 432 P.A |

NY guy!!! Since you've grabbed a whole lot of info and as a experienced guy unlike (probably) most of us here, could you assure me it won't halt its construction or even cancel like Chicago Spire did in Chicago that went by the by too far and suddenly silent. |
NYCRules, maybe follow the thread first, and take it all in. Your answers are almost all available in this thread.

This tower is probably a little different. For one, NY's demand for high end condo's is crazy. That means that this tower is actually practical. Plus, you have Nordstrom already lined up for space. The Chicago Spire was to be built without any demand needed for such a tower. Two different scenarios. |
