WOW! This looks incredible! So incredible, I had no qualms on leaving the image in my response so it could be seen again.

You know that tired old saying: "they just don't build them like they used to"? Clearly they do.
|
^This and Tower Verre are perfect examples of that! This is an unreal time for skyscrapers.

This renewed interest in constructing and facing buildings both short and tall with such high-quality materials is beyond refreshing. I understand they command staggering high prices, but for a minute I never really thought I'd see materials like bronze, terracotta, limestone and copper used in building design again. This feels like a new architectural movement almost...it's not Beaux-Arts or Neoclassical, it's not traditional Art Deco, not Postmodern. It's just something new...crossing my fingers we see a ton more of this for years to come.
Neo-Deco maybe? ;) |
I wouldn't expect anything less from SHoP, they're great!
I'm looking forward to future projects from them which includes 80 South Street and their tower between Hudson Yards and Manhattan West. |

I suspected it when I say the renderings, but it is confirmed in seeing this mock-up. This building and this facade in particular will be a defining example of modern architecture. I hope these tropes work their way into the mainstream. It is absolutely beautiful.

The level of workmanship on this tower is unreal. I can't wait to see how that cladding looks on site.

From the comments in the videos it seems like union workers are just hanging out around the job site waiting for non-union workers to screw up.
|
As I understand it, to be in the union you have to be skilled in the first place. This is certainly no place for a non-union crew. Lookatthat!
|
^In Chicago, we have a giant inflatable rat that is placed in front of non-union construction sites. They don't take that lightly here. Do NYC unions employ the rat tactic?
Hoisting rebar over traffic was indeed pretty negligent, and the scaffolding crew moving about unteathered is just asking for trouble. It evokes the roaring-20s style nostalgia, which is kind of cool, but this will tarnish an otherwise fantastic project for the duration of construction. |
