Tallest residential building in the northern hemisphere? Try tallest residential building IN THE WORLD.

NYguy Jun 14, 2015 7:35 AM

Who will own the "top" view in New York? In a city where skyhigh penthouses are rising higher and higher, whoever owns the top spot will be the king of New York real estate. At least as far as penthouses go.

That would be worth every penny to have that title. Knowing you live higher than everyone in Gotham. The overlord and protector of the realm.

Yeh I don't get the "tallest in the northern hemisphere" line. Am I forgetting some residential tower in the Southern Hemisphere that is taller? Is there anything taller non residential in the Southern Hemisphere? I know World One will ever around 1450 but that is the only thing I can think of that comes close

It's not like they will live there more than 1 month per year.

When you're that wealthy, you don't have to. Ahh, the super-rich. They're not landlocked like the rest of us. Even super-villains need to travel the world.

Obviously it is a mistake, they meant "western hemisphere"

the double rising of 220 CPS with this one - is soon to be my favorite focus . . .
such height so close together . . .
Love the contrast between 220 classically-detailed limestone and sleek 217 glass . . .
the asymmetrical mast atop this "tallest" looks so perfect . . .
I wish 220 had a bit of a copper Pierre-like roof though . . .
but that's in my Fantasy Manhattan Mind . . .

It might be a fleeting title, given some other potential projects. The next year should be fun.

Documents Confirm 1,522-Foot Parapet Height For 217 West 57th Street

NIKOLAI FEDAK

The permitting process surrounding high-profile projects is becoming increasingly convoluted, with ‘dummy filings’ now commonly submitted prior to actual new building applications. This is particularly true at 217 West 57th Street, which still doesn’t have any on-site renderings. But luckily some new supporting documents have been filed with the city, revealing what appear to be the actual height numbers for the tower’s parapet and roof, confirming it will become the country’s tallest building.

The documents show the building’s curtain wall will top out at 1,521.83 feet above street level, meaning 217 West 57th Street will officially stand 71 feet taller than Chicago’s Willis Tower, the country’s current title holder of ‘tallest roof,’ ahead of 432 Park Avenue and One World Trade Center.

A floor count is also now available, and the tower will rise 95 stories.

Emperor Palpatine will be moving into the upper 2 floors after the construction is finished. ;)

I hope in the future we see some of those post-war turds directly on Central Park torn down and replaced with something more fitting.

I hope not - look at those cheap brick turds on 59th between 7th and 8th. All of those buildings are garbage.

Busy Bee Jun 16, 2015 4:41 PM

How come 200CPS CPS fronting base is never shown in the renderings?

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Pros: All the tax revenue, none of the traffic. Neighbors can throw all the loud parties they want. Don't have to worry about schools.

Cons: There's a huge building with almost nobody in it. Doesn't drive economic activity around it.
