Stawksi Partners filed plans Friday for a 66-story residential tower in Long Island City. The 838,000-square-foot building at 43-30 24th Street will include 921 rental apartments, 17,000 square feet of retail space, a library and an indoor swimming pool.

The site most recently housed two manufacturing warehouses used by retailers Bergdorf Goodman and To Boot New York. Stawski terminated their leases earlier this year, property records show. The Midtown-based development firm also owns an adjacent lot at 23-10 43rd Avenue.

Goldstein, Hill & West Architects is the architect of record, the filing shows.

Pretty damn bulky this thing will be given what its going to replace. 900+ units is a lot as well.

Compare to 3 Manhattan west.

3 MW is 1 foot shorter, has 2 less floors and 50K less SQFT. So basically this is going to be a slightly more thick 3 MW. But in LIC where it will have more impact.

chris08876 May 13, 2016 11:25 PM

I'd imagine this thing will have 10' ceilings for the residential (rentals), possibly 12' or 14' for the retail/library component, and mechanical, which puts it in line with 703'.

A project like this does illustrate why we need even more aggressive zoning. 921 units is nice, but it could be higher. This tower could make much more profit over the long term if it had more units. Limitations... :(

But at least its on the right step. We need more towers that approach the 1000 mark in terms of units.

This is going to be right next to Queens first supertall. I see a nice cluster forming here.

chris08876 Jun 26, 2016 3:48 AM

Scaffolding... Possible demo shortly? :fingerscrossed:

If so, it will be good to see the gears turning on yet another LIC redefining tower. A 299m tower, and this at 703 ft. Future #1 and #2 tallest. First one being 23-15 44th Street aka Court Square City View.

Thanks to tipster SuperMac, who alerted us to construction beginning at 43-30 24th Street. Construction crews recently erected a sidewalk shed for the future 66-story residential tower pursuant to a permit approved back in June.1 The Real Deal was the first to spot construction permits back in May, and here is more information about the project:2

The 838,000-square-foot building at 43-30 24th Street will include 921 rental apartments, 17,000 square feet of retail space, a library and an indoor swimming pool. […] Stawski Partners, founded by German-born Axel Stawski, owns half a dozen office buildings in Manhattan, including 360 Madison Avenue and the Broad Financial Center at 33 Whitehall Street.

I approve of this. Wide enough to give views to everone, but not too bulky.

NYC2ATX Jan 7, 2017 9:03 AM

AND it's literally next to/across the street from the Court Square City View Tower. Like. Whoa.

Just for the record. The most recent filing: As of 10/19/2016. One all the way above was from May.

Site Cleared and Zoning Approved for 731-Foot-Tall Skyscraper Planned For LIC's Court Square
April 13, 2017
Quote:

Of all the city’s growing neighborhoods, the changes taking place in Long Island City appear to be the most dramatic. Rising from its once sleepy manufacturing blocks are dozens of slick residential towers-- resulting in a pop-up skyline that seemingly grows larger by the day.

Within the neighborhood’s Court Square district, the commercial real estate firm of Stawski Partners is readying to build an immense 921-unit rental tower at 43-30 24th Street. The 66-story tower will be in contention for the tallest building in Queens if it finishes prior to the proposed Court Square City View Tower next door. Recently-approved permits indicate the tower will rise 731 feet, nearly 75-feet higher than boroughs’ current tallest building, One Court Square.
