O'Carrolls is not going back. RBC is going into that space I believe. And the operator, who ran the Hart & Thistle, went broke in that location so it will be some time before the issues with that are resolved. A shame, because O'Carrols was a good spot.

I remember going to O'Carroll's with family friends when I was fairly young (early teens). It seemed kind of similar to Five Fishermen or Henry House - fairly standard upscale pub food with an emphasis on seafood, in a kind of dimly-lit atmosphere. I remember it being good but not really out of the ordinary as far as Halifax restaurants go/went.

O'Carrolls had pub food on the pub side but rather nice food in the restaurant side.

That interior stone looks cool at night—Lord knows I'm no fan of facadism, but if you're standing on the northeast side of the street looking across and through the glass facade, it appears like the old building has been shoved straight into the new one. It's a neat effect.

Fridays are good days to stray off-topic. |
There is now a white/yellow EY (Ernst & Young) logo on the south face of the Duke/Lwr Water corner of the building.

Went to the new bank for the first time. Pretty casual compared to the old building. I just came from work and felt over dressed for the occasion! A bank should be clad in expensive marble or other stone, not look like a living room with hardwood floors.
Because CIBC also renovated their bank the only nice bank left is Scotiabanks downtown location. All the rest are living rooms now. :yuck: |
Scotia Bank is an impressive interior. More grand than the 'Elephant and Castle', but the E&C is very nice.

A little off-topic, but has there been any word on the status of the 'Elephant and Castle' bank building? I heard another restaurant was going to open there some time ago, but that seems to have fizzled out. |

A giant sticky note billboard has gone up in the windows of Waterside Centre for Nocturne.
