Are Canadian media not reporting on this? This sounds like a big deal to me. Have to say I'm impressed with the timeline. Essentially done in 3.5 years if they start next spring/summer. Also good that they are doing other related work.

The media did most of their reporting on this back when the bidding was happening and the long-term closures of the highway were being contemplated. I don't think the award of the contract is as big of news to most people.

Given how many times the NDP government in B.C. has cancelled projects you'd think that the actual awarding of a major contract would be huge news.

Or they're trying to sweep it under the carpet because the Community Benefits component jacked the price up 50% and scope had to be reduced accordingly. Hell, if they can make Jimmy Hoffa disappear, they can certainly bury union graft.

They can reduce the scope of the project around Chase. KHC Phase 4? There's no way they can reduce it. The only issue is that cost for this one is going up by 35%...

This should never have been a DB contract. It's too complicated and there is way too much that can go wrong to scope appropriately.

Lets get this thing across the finish line before the NDP kill it.

I think the traditional model fits nicely here. There is too much risk with the project to price effectively under any alternative delivery model.

Also since when does the short segment around Memorial Park (i.e. immediately east of the curved divided 4 lanes) have 4 lanes? It looks recent.

I was in August 2019. Unfortunately I cannot recall that specific area. What I can tell are the massive twining and upgrades that were current at the time before and after Rogers Pass. I believe most of it is done by now and they moved further. Highway twining at national parks falls under their budget. Talk to a lady at Rogers Pass visitor center and she told me that federals dumped huge money into upgrading the whole area of the national park. I have some pictures as well but from 2018.

Okay that’s what I thought too. For the longest time, only that sharp curve was twinned. Okay, that proceeded quietly. Now I wanna see the same thing in Revelstoke N.P. because too many fatal crashes happened there.
