Turkish Airlines schedules Vancouver launch in June 2020
By Jim Liu Posted 5 February 2020 14:00 Turkish Airlines this week opened reservation for Istanbul – Vancouver service, marking the addition of its 3rd Canadian route. The Star Alliance carrier plans to operate Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on this route from 09JUN20, 3 times weekly. TK075 IST1405 – 1550YVR 789 247 TK076 YVR1720 – 1450+1IST 789 247 Reservation is currently available until 22OCT20 inclusive. https://www.routesonline.com/news/38...-in-june-2020/ Nice to finally have some good airport news, it hasn't been a good aviation world so far this year with the Iran crash, the Max grounding, Coronavirus etc. And this is definitely a welcome addition for YVR, need more links to that part of the world, we have nothing currently! |
Hmmm... interesting ... wonder how Swoop will respond?

Apologies to whoever was annoyed I talk about this... BUT I'm delighted and surprised to see the campaign has a lot of Irish support. Most of the various Facebook groups and petitions are led by Irish people, and they're probably a solid 20% of the membership of all the various groups. It's still nothing, of course, and you could pull 1,000 people off the sidewalk over there and not find a single one with any idea about this, but I'm still glad to see that minuscule fraction of them present. :D

WestJet Link's next destination is announced: Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Link flights to Prince George are also being switched to WestJet Encore.

1) Dawson Creek is a Certified Airport. 2) Central Mountain Air runs scheduled passenger services from Prince George. Presumably WestJet has studied the market and sees a viable business case for the route, which will be tested once they commence service. It is interesting, like you've said, given that Dawson Creek is located midway between Fort St. John and Grande Prairie, both with scheduled services. |

Wondering if WS is now announcing the summer schedule changes by city instead of one big one. The only changes they've announced today are all YYC based. And none of them are loaded in the GDS yet.

Pacific Coastal makes money flying the passengers for WestJet and supplies the aircraft and crews - while WJ schedules, markets & prices the route, taking a booking fee. The hope for WJ is the PAX are connecting onward from YYC or YVR. Quote:

Under the CPA Pacific Coastal's (PCA) seats are 'purchased' by Westjet. So if WJ doesn't fill the plane - they still pay a 'set' fee per seat (or per flight). This agreement is also good for PCA, as it protects them from variations in passenger loads and fuel/ticket prices. |
WS is really pushing the YYC hub with feeder flights, since the actual Calgary market is probably not doing great right now with the economy. They are clearly trying to see how well the domestic destinations feed into the international expansion. The fact that they will have four weekly Rome flights, while YVR and SEA have none and even SFO only has 6 per week, and that isn't even on United, it's 3 each on Alitalia and Norwegian. And there will be very little inbound traffic from Rome to YYC, so it's all leisure. Will be interesting to see if it can succeed

Hey, speaking of regional airlines and Capacity Purchase Agreements (CPA).... Air Georgian is in trouble after Air Canada is letting its CPA expire. Air Canada Express is now operated by 3 'regional airlines' with CPAs .. with Jazz Aviation (Chorus) being the largest. Jazz is actually Canada's 3rd largest airline - the Skywest of Canada!
