The A380 is terrible looking.

Aye, it's no Concorde to look at that's for sure. A heck of a lot quieter though!

Yup, she's a derpy bird but I'd gladly welcome one to YYC. :)

Having flown on one to Dubai it is definitely a massive piece of machinery. I do love the wings and their curves.

The A380 is a real pain to control on the ground, at least here at YUL.
When AF flew here, there were all sorts of restrictions on the ground. When it was taxiing on the north ramp of the main apron, the wings didn't clear runway 28's protected area. So you couldnt use runway 28. Same thing on taxiway A versus a vehicle road that had to be sterilized before the A380 could pass. Not to mention the mandatory runway inspection after each A380 departure (which in itself isn't too bad, as you have to wait 3 minutes for wake turbulence separation anyways, so the inspection was fairly quick and uneventful) None of this is purely the A380's fault, as YUL is an old airport and the layout is not conducive to all these big jets, but nonetheless, other Canadian airports might have similar problems as well. I know the controllers here are all glad the whalejet is not a regular anymore. |
If YYC was to ever see one here (diversion or a regular flight) I think it could get around unrestricted if it used the new parallel and the new terminal once open. Things on the west side of the field and runway 17R/35L would probably have restrictions in place for it.

Any other aircraft causing restrictions? (aside from the obvious Soviet cargo planes that we can ignore for the purpose of this discussion). |

I can add to the deice restriction in that when deicing is in progress, code F aircraft are not permitted on V between E and M. That one slipped my mind yesterday. |
Fire is now at YMM airport. The Nova Hotel is gone along with a Gas Maintenance Facility. Portions of the airport Fire hall is damaged. If the fire has progressed further along the air fire attack base is threatened. On the other side of town the charter airlines are using the Shell aerodrome to evact people from the north.

6L is closed, so they are using 10 for all landers, 6R for the heavies and those that go to the GA, and 6R for departures. The AAR is much better that way compared to single 6R ops. http://extranetapps.navcanada.ca/ois/ois.aspx |
